League of Legends has received several modes over time that were available for a short period. Some remained like ARAM forever, but others have not been seen again for years. A specific mode, however, has been longed for by the community to return.
What is Doom Bots of Doom?
- Also known as Nightmare Mode
- The first featured mode that also used bots
- The bots in this mode are extremely strong and have modified abilities
Basically, in Doom Bots of Doom, you fight as a 5-man team against bots in a normal LoL match. What is special, however, are the extremely enhanced and modified abilities of these bots. For example, Lux’s ultimate was like a ring, Blitzcrank used 3 Qs simultaneously in a cone, and Veigar creates a full ring of W abilities. Additionally, there were also several difficulty levels.
The mode was last playable in 2016.

User GentleTillTheEnd posted a Reddit thread about the mode, as the 10th anniversary of the first trailer is approaching. In the comments under the thread, people also rave about their experiences with the mode and how much they wish for a revival.

But what made this mode so good? Unlike things like Arena, One for All or URF, Doom Bots of Doom is less competitive due to its focus on PvE. The focus is on having fun battling these seemingly unbeatable bots with friends.
The bots are also interesting from a gameplay perspective, as there is no need to pay attention to balancing and you can turn the abilities of the different champions upside down. What sounds unfair and overpowered finds its place in Doom Bots of Doom.
A PvE mode invites experimentation. Even in normals, experiments are penalized, as there are simply optimal builds for champions. But in Doom Bots, one had to try to outsmart the bots, as a fair 1 against 1 was not possible.
In the comments of the thread, other PvE modes like Odyssey are also praised. It seems that the player base is also interested in such ideas. Whether we will ever see the return of Doom Bots remains questionable.
