League of Legends has several ranks in its ranking mode that categorize players based on their skills. The lower you go, the weaker the players become in terms of mechanical skill. Currently, an unconventional champion known for his bluntness dominates in Bronze.
Which champion is it? The champion Garen has been in LoL since the beginning and has always been known for being incredibly blunt.
- Has a high passive heal
- Can silence opponents
- Is very tanky himself but deals massive damage with his E ability and his ultimate.
- No ability requires mechanical skill
Actually, Garen is a classic top laner, but apparently he also dominates the mid lane in Bronze. With a win rate of 55.66% (via. U.GG as of 31.08.2023), he is only ranked 4th among the best champions in the role, but a win rate over 55% is still incredibly high.
Blunt is Trumpf
Why is that? Many mages are currently in a rather poor state and are dominated by assassins. They have few tools to defend themselves or many skill shots, which require hitting the target. And even if they hit, Garen can heal himself in no time if he is not hit for a short period.
Accordingly, Garen simply runs at the mostly immobile mid laners and kills them quickly. With his ultimate, he can even execute opponents with a fair amount of health. Consequently, he is also a frustrating match-up. However, if you know Garen and can consistently stun him, he is less of a threat.
Looking at the statistics in Silver, he is no longer even present on the mid lane. However, Tryndamere is at the top, following a similar strategy. Interestingly, Garen is right back at the top from Platinum, so he seems to have found a successful spot in the current mid lane meta.

This dominance may change again in the coming weeks, as today’s patch buffs some mid laners and nerfs some assassins, potentially leading to a mage-based mid lane again.
