Maokai dominates as a supporter in the bot lane in League of Legends. Players are demanding that Riot Games nerfs the tree. MeinMMO reveals what is behind this.
Maokai dominates as a supporter in the bot lane. He is currently one of the best supports in the game. In the jungle or on the top lane, he is less seen in the current meta. As a tank supporter, he simply performs too well. With Patch 14.3, the tree received small nerfs. Now with Patch 14.4, the nerf hammer has been swung again to keep him, according to Riot Games (via leagueoflegends.com), under control.
But obviously the patch is not achieving the desired results – at least according to the community. On Reddit, some players are demanding a hotfix for Maokai because he seems to perform even better after the patch.
Players demand nerfs for Maokai
What does the community say about Maokai? Discussions in the community on Reddit indicate that Maokai’s win rate is consistently high. On u.gg, he currently has a win rate of 53.84% (as of February 23, across all ranks) and a ban rate of 19.8%.
The discussions cover various aspects of the game, including the role of other champions and whether certain champions are favored. We have summarized a few comments for you:
- StaticandCo:
It may be early in the patch, but there is enough data to see that he is still overpowered and the nerfs obviously haven’t helped much. I think the changes to support items in this patch have actually made him stronger.
- LargeSnorlax:
He has been at 55%+ for 4 patches, he is clearly not being weakened by hotfixes. He will likely see another small nerf in the next patch to weaken him.
- ssLoupyy:
This champion has been broken since the start of the season, but all they’ve done is slightly weaken him and come up with excuses. Just make a proper adjustment […] .
But why is he still so strong after the nerfs? FunnyBunnyH has an answer for that. With Patch 14.4, changes were made to the support items. You now receive boosts earlier in the game. The second boost appears about ten seconds after the second minion wave, allowing you to make better use of the strength of Maokai’s W+Q
combo.
Furthermore, Warmog’s Sledge has been buffed:
- Healing from
Sledge Ride
: From 120 health – to 7% of the user’s maximum health - Movement speed from Sledge Ride: From +90 constant movement speed, decreases over 4 seconds – to 30% additional movement speed, decreases over 3 seconds
Sledge Ride is the passive of Warmog’s Sledge
. When you slow or immobilize a generic champion, you and a nearby ally with the lowest health gain extra health and movement speed. With his many CC effects, he can trigger the passive almost all the time.
With Patch 14.4, Lethal Tempo was also nerfed: Riot Games nerfs a rune with the new patch and could thereby slow down 2 popular champions – the community cheers
