Among the fans of League of Legends, there are ongoing discussions about which champions the developer Riot Games has given the most skins to, and which are less popular. On reddit, a player compared all champions and their skins. A champion from 2020 is the big winner in terms of skins.
What kind of statistic is this? The reddit user raikaria2 created a table listing all champions and their number of skins. He also classified them into 5 categories, depending on how many skins they have received on average since their release.
Some interesting results emerged.
A Champion from 2020 receives particularly many skins
Which champions receive particularly many skins? The leader in skins is Sett. Sett was released in January 2020, almost exactly two years ago. With Patch 12.2, he will receive his fifth skin – Firecracker Sett – later in January 2022.
On average, Sett gets a new skin every 4.8 months. This is the record value in the game.
But Riot also particularly likes other champions:
- Lux and Ezreal each have 16 different skins and thus the most in the game. On average, they receive a new skin every 8.3 months (8.8 months for Ezreal).
- The champions Ahri (14 skins), Akali (14 skins), and Miss Fortune (15 skins) also offer a very large selection of skins.
- One of the highest skin rates per month is held by Kai’Sa. She receives a skin every 5.8 months and already has 8, despite only being released in 2018.
It is somewhat surprising that some monster champions are among those with the most skins. Often, the community complains that only human champions receive skins. Kog’Maw and Renekton, for example, both have 12 skins.
The years 2009, 2015, and 2016 brought forth the least popular champions
Which champions are particularly unpopular? At the top of the unpopularity scale is likely Rell. Rell was released at the end of 2020 but has only a single skin. Even Gwen, Akshan, and Viego, all of whom were released in 2021, already have two skins. A third skin has even been announced for Viego.
However, there is also a strong contender: Taric. He was released in August 2009 and has only 5 skins. This means he only receives a new skin every 29.3 months. Let’s see if Rell can beat that.
Other major losers include:
- Zilean – he came into the game in April 2009 and has 6 skins.
- Sion – has been in the game since release and has only 7 skins.
- Urgot – received 5 skins since his release in August 2010
It gets peculiar here with almost all champions from the years 2015 and 2016. Tham Kench, Kindred, Illaoi, Aurelion Sol, Taliyah, Kled, and Ivern all only have 3 or at most 4 skins. Only Jhin (7 skins) and Ekko (8 skins) escaped the great skin drought during this period.
With Rakan, Xayah, and Zoe (all three released in 2017 and already have 6 skins), the drought finally ended.
