The League of Legends is usually dominated by teenagers who generally must be single. There seems to be no room for a woman. However, in the best LoL league in the world, the Chinese LPL, a 24-year-old has now been voted the best player. MVP Doinb has the “Wife” buff – he is married.
Who is Doinb?
- Doinb is a native Korean. However, his LoL career began at a time when many LoL professionals were disappearing from Korea because large organizations were only allowed to have one team. As a result, many young Koreans moved to China – including Doinb, who changed countries at the age of 19.
- Things did not go well for Doinb in China. In 2016, he had a dispute with his jungler and was considered a troublemaker who couldn’t get anything done. Instead of fully motivated like many teenagers, Doinb was essentially already at the end of his career at 20. In September 2018, he announced his retirement from professional gaming. Doinb also played in a somewhat unconventional way; he was not a classic midlaner who stayed on his lane collecting kills and gold but roamed across the map. Who does that?
- But in December 2018, Doinb suddenly landed at FunPlus Phoenix in a perfect situation: There, he formed a top team with the brilliant jungler Tian. FunPlus Phoenix adjusted their style to Doinb’s crazy roaming and suddenly formed the best team in the world, winning the LoL Worlds in 2019. They played with Doinb as a “super carry,” over whom the European competition could only marvel in awe.
Doinb is the most valuable player in China in the Summer Split 2021
How it’s going for him in 2021: After a weak year in 2020, Doinb is back: He was named the most valuable player in 2021 in the Summer Split of the LPL.
In 39 games, Doinb achieved the most kills, with only Knight (21) from Top Esports ahead of him. However, Doinb had the highest KDA in the league. He only died 70 times and racked up 260 assists. Knight, on the other hand, had 90 fewer assists.
By the way, in the 39 games, Doinb won the MVP title of the match 13 times, while Knight claimed it 14 times.
This year, FunPlus Phoenix with Doinb, Tian, and the new top laner Nuguri is again considered one of the favorites for the world championship, although the Chinese playoffs are still pending.
“If Faker has no girlfriend, I don’t either”
What’s up with this Wife buff? One of Doinb’s unique features is that he is one of the few LoL professionals to be a husband. He has been married to Li “Umi” Youzi since 2018, a former caster of the MMO “Dungeon Fighter Online”.
Doinb draws a lot of strength and energy from this marriage. His wife believed in him when he had already mentally given up on his career. In 2018, Doinb had virtually ended his professional career. A year later, he became a world champion.
At the Worlds 2019, the image of his wife crying with joy in the audience went viral. Even before Doinb, Kang “Ambition” Chan-yong shone as a husband in League of Legends.
That is special because many LoL players are known for not even having a girlfriend. Many young LoL players have grown up with the Korean midlaner Faker as a role model. They emulate the ascetic lifestyle of the “immortal demon king”.
When seasoned professionals like Faker or his former teammate Impact want to relax from LoL, they play a round of LoL. In their lives, there is no room for anything that deviates from “playing, eating, sleeping, repeat”.
For many young professionals, the rule has since been: “If Faker has no girlfriend, I don’t either.”
But Faker won his last World Championship in 2016 and seems to have lost quite a bit of strength in recent years; perhaps LoL players should take a cue from Doinb and look for a Wife buff. There seems to be some truth to it:
