The 21-year-old Elias “Upset” Lipp is currently rising as the new star in League of Legends . In his 10 playoff games, Upset has impressive statistics, boasting by far the best KDA of all players. He is now leading his team Fnatic into the decisive games against his predecessor, the legendary Rekkles. There’s a joke: It’s all thanks to the Wife Buff, as Lipp got married a few weeks ago.
Who is Upset?
- Elias Lipp played for Schalke from 2017 to 2019 and then finally rose into the first league of European bot laners with Origen. But in November 2020, an apparently insurmountable task awaited him: He had to replace the legendary bot laner Rekkles at Fnatic – who had switched to the perennial champion G2 Esports.
- Before the season, Upset and Fnatic’s chances were viewed critically: They hadn’t convinced in the previous years but fluctuated. Without their star player Rekkles and with a bot laner lacking international experience and proven skill, a crisis could arise. And it did, as Fnatic was eliminated against Schalke in the playoffs and ended up only in fifth place.
- But in the first 2 rounds of the summer playoffs 2021, Upset played as if he came from another world. The statistics proved this.
By far the best KDA in the LoL playoffs
This is how well Upset plays right now: Fnatic was so weak during the current season that they started in the “Loser’s Bracket” of the playoffs as one of only 2 teams. In Game 1, they had to face Team Vitality, and Upset delivered insane statistics.
In the 5 games against Vitality:
- Upset achieved a strong KDA of 13 (This is the ratio of kills and assists to deaths – he was involved in a kill 13 times more often than he died)
- He had a significant lead over his opponent in kills and gold after just 15 minutes
- Upset played champs like Kai’Sa, Xayah (8-0-6), Ezreal (9-0-6), Aphelios, and again Ezreal (5-0-6)
- He was named the MVP of the series
The LEC joked “Wife Buff in full effect,” a reference to the claim that married players in LoL are allegedly much better than the notorious singles.

Now one might say: Well, that was just one series. But the remarkable thing is: Against the next opponent Misfits, Upset was even stronger in the 5 games:
- Upset’s KDA rose from 13 even higher to 15 – he scored 19 kills and 43 assists, dying only 3 times
- He played champs like Xayah (2-0-13), Tristana, a 2nd time Xayah (12-0-10), Tristana, and Aphelios (4-0-4)
It is noticeable that Upset in particular rarely dies and racks up a high number of assists.
After 10 playoff games, Upset now has a KDA of 14.0, leading the LEC by a wide margin. The next highest player is the jungler of MAD Lions, Elyoya, who has a KDA of 9.3
Even his predecessor, Rekkles, who now plays for G2 Esports, has a KDA of only 9.0 – but he has also only played 4 games.
