League of Legends has some champions that are associated with a certain role. These include Amumu and Maokai, who are actually typical jungle champions. However, currently they are stronger in a completely different role and dominate that lane.
Which lane is it? Amumu and Maokai are currently incredibly good in the support position. Maokai is even better than in his original position, the jungle. On U.GG this is evident in the statistics. (As of: 25.08.2023)

These numbers refer to all ranks together. Looking at the statistics of higher ranks, for example, Emerald and above, their win rates are even significantly higher in the support position than in the jungle, even though the jungle currently seems to be the best role:

Both champions are CC machines
Why are both so strong as supporters? The keyword here is massive CC. Both champions are currently one of the best options for a tank, who can help the team and can target certain enemies to stun with their ADC.
Since Amumu’s Q has two charges, he can chase enemies much better, and his ultimate is one of the best options for a good fight in teamfights due to his CC and large range. He can also function as a main tank if the jungler or top laner chooses a less defensive option.
Maokai is just as good a champion, but offers even more interesting CC options. With his W, he can easily approach enemies and push them away with the Q. Through his E and the synergy with the bushes on the bot lane, he also has poke options and can theoretically bring a little damage with the item Demonic Embrace. His ultimate also has a large range and is a good option both offensively and defensively when the enemy team attacks.
Both champions are simply good picks in almost every team due to their kits. Both champions work well as supporters, and as tanks they give the jungle the option to play an aggressive jungler. With Kha’Zix, Kayn, Evelynn, and more, they are also currently a strong choice for the jungle.
Additionally, Amumu and Maokai mains can also vary in their role choice and adapt to the team, as both champions remain solid picks in the jungle.
