Tom Hiddleston achieved international fame through his role as Marvel villain Loki. However, he actually wanted to play a completely different character: the hero Thor.
As the God of Mischief, Loki makes life difficult for his brother Thor. In several Marvel adaptations, such as The Avengers and even now in his own series, the actor continuously steps into the costume of the Norse god.
During “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in November 2019, the actor spoke about his Marvel role. He also mentioned that he actually wanted to play Thor.

“I never auditioned for Loki”
Tom Hiddleston auditions for the first Thor movie in 2009. At the time, the actor cannot even begin to guess what the project would later mean for his career: “I thought I would be auditioning for a [normal] film. An interesting role in an interesting movie.”
At that time, the Marvel Universe was still in its early stages and had not yet developed into the major franchise it is today.

Tom Hiddleston thinks he could just give it a try and attempt to get a role in the film. Even though the actor does not actually expect to be cast.
However, the actor does not audition for the role of the villain Loki, but for that of the main character: superhero and God of Thunder Thor.
The producers are looking for unknown actors for the role so they are not yet associated with other films. People just need to have a certain height and blonde hair to be allowed to audition.
“I never auditioned for Loki. I only auditioned for Thor, which is crazy“, the actor explains during the talk show.
With flowing blonde hair and a hammer in hand, the actor can be seen in the short audition clip. “I think we can all agree they found the right actor [for the role],” Tom Hiddleston laughs afterwards.
