Light machine guns (LMGs) rock in Call of Duty: Warzone since the integration of CoD: Vanguard. MeinMMO presents you with a new, very precise setup of the MG42 and shows why assault rifles are currently at a disadvantage.

- The weapon meta has changed accordingly – Vanguard weapons are dominating in most weapon classes
- This has even gone so far that LMGs as range weapons are now better than assault rifles
CoD Warzone: MG42 setup hits hard but precise
What does the setup look like? Let’s start with the setup of the MG42, which uses the standard magazine. This gives you 125 painful bullets ready to fire and a rate of fire that can be very well controlled along with the other attachments.
In general, you should use attachments that further reduce recoil with the setup. The MG42 thus becomes a comfortably playable laser, as the recoil almost only kicks upward.

What makes it so good? Although you are using some attachments that extend the aiming time, the MG42 remains surprisingly nimble when aiming with this setup. This allows for quick reactions when spotting an enemy.
Additionally, the attachment combination has very good control. Even in long bursts, the LMG can be held very steadily with a bit of practice, allowing for precise gameplay.
Together with the large magazine, you can suppress enemies for a long time or have the chance to take out an entire team at range without having to reload.
What can it not do so well? Although the aiming time is quite good – the MG42 remains an LMG. Expect long reload times and low movement speed when using the weapon.
Assault rifles can’t keep up
Why should you now opt for LMGs? Assault rifles are no longer the go-to choice for range applications at the start of the Vanguard era.
The good control, the pleasant aiming time, and the high damage of LMGs lead to all-round assault rifles losing their value.
With the weapons from Cold War and CoD MW, these combinations did not exist. High control was already a feature of LMGs before, but the weapons aimed in ketchup speed.
This might be a new direction that Warzone is taking. Assault rifles have always been a big part of the meta, and LMGs have often been niche products for connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Now they have mainstream ambitions and could shape the range meta of the Vanguard era – along with aggressive sniper rifles.
Who should continue with assault rifles? Assault rifles still work at range, but often lose the damage comparison with LMGs. STG44, BAR, Robot – all struggle with damage and also have less range than LMGs.
The NZ-41 can still keep up, but also loses damage at close distances compared to LMGs.
However, if you like to have a weapon that can do something at all ranges while also offering decent movement speed and reload rate, then stick with the assault rifles. As sniper support, assault rifles are also still better.
At the moment, it seems that the power balance of weapons in Warzone is shifting. Assault rifles are generally a bit weaker now because they are so versatile. LMGs, on the other hand, specialize in range.
