Snipers, grenades, and plenty of action. This trailer promotes PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) on smartphones in China.
Recently, the mobile version of PUBG was released in China. To attract even more players, a strong live-action trailer was used, despite initial significant problems.
First, it was supposed to be banned, now it’s being celebrated
On the way to the PUBG release in China, there were initially some blockages. The government was completely against the battle royale game because it would convey the wrong values. PUBG resembles gladiatorial combat.
This planned ban quickly fell apart when the Chinese company Tencent secured the rights for the PUBG release in China. They wanted to adapt the shooter to the socialist core values of the country. Tencent is said to maintain excellent relations with the authorities.
Now, the developers are releasing this trailer that uses real actors.
Gameplay looks impressive
Tencent stated that they are working on a Chinese PUBG version for PC and two mobile games of the shooter. While one of the mobile games focuses more on vehicle combat, the other is a port of the PC version. This version has already been released by the developers at Timi Studio in the Chinese App Store.
The mobile PUBG looks visually impressive and is already being celebrated by many players in China. In the following video, you can see clips from the game:
Whether this mobile version of PUBG will also come to the West is still uncertain. Tencent has not commented on this yet.
Expansion of Battle Royale to the smartphone world?
Already before Tencent secured the rights to PUBG in China, a local PUBG variant was being developed. It is called “Glorious Mission” and had several million registrations from players eager to play the game during the testing phase shortly after its announcement.
After Battle Royale games like Fortnite BR or PUBG made a huge impact on PC and console players, creating a mobile version is a logical step. As long as the controls are intuitive, a round of Battle Royale can also be fun on a mobile phone.
That such PC concepts can also work on smartphones was already demonstrated by Arena of Valor as a MOBA for smartphones.
