In Lineage Eternal many thought that you would play alone with a group of four heroes. One of them is to be controlled by the player, the rest by the AI. Now the beta has started in Korea and the party gameplay is a bit different than expected.
First images and gameplay videos of Lineage Eternal, NCSoft’s Diablo MMO, suggested that you would control a complete party of four heroes alone. Just like in classic single-player RPGs, such as the good old Baldur’s Gate.
There you always controlled one of the heroes in the party, while the rest was controlled by the AI, attacking, casting spells, and participating in battles.
There can be only one!
However, yesterday, on November 30, the closed beta of Lineage Eternal started in Korea and the first information about the actual gameplay came in. The truth about the party system quickly came to light: We actually only control one hero! But the party of up to four heroes still exists, the other three characters are just not involved in the game when they are not actively switched by the player. We switch between the heroes as needed, always selecting the character that seems most suitable for the respective situation.
To ensure that this switching doesn’t break the game balance, there is a cooldown of 25 seconds between allowed switches.
Also cool: All heroes always have the same character level, so we don’t have to level up all characters separately. We only need to assemble equipment individually for each avatar.
What do you think of the current party setup system in Lineage Eternal? Would you have preferred to have all four heroes at once or do you find the switching game like in Master X Master better?
