Microsoft presented a new limited edition of the Xbox Series X. It features the sleek design inspired by the shooter Halo Infinite. Unfortunately, the console is already sold out and is being offered for up to $2,000 on eBay.
This is the edition in question: At the Opening Night Live of the gamescom 2021, Microsoft announced the release date for their new shooter Halo Infinite and simultaneously presented a matching Xbox Series X console – in the stylish Halo look.
The housing of the console is embellished with a pattern of dark metal plates, stars, and gold lines. The ventilation of the Xbox, which usually glows green, has a blue hue in the Halo edition. It comes with a matching controller. Pre-orders for the console went online on August 26, and they are now sold out almost everywhere (via gameswirtschaft).
This is what the scalpers are doing: It didn’t take long for users to see the first offers of the limited console from Microsoft on eBay at astronomical prices. Scalpers are asking between $800 and $2,000 for the Halo edition of the Xbox Series X (via eBay).
This is more than the average prices currently being asked for a PS5 on eBay. Prices for the Sony console have stabilized around $600 to $700.
Since the console itself will be released on November 15, only the pre-order confirmations are being sold on eBay for now. Some offers promise that the console will be shipped on release day.
This practice is not new and has occurred frequently when the regular Xbox Series X and PS5 were available for pre-order about a year ago:
- The scalpers took advantage of the console shortage to intercept pre-orders with bots and make millions in profit by selling the devices at high prices on eBay.
- This even led to eBay having to introduce special rules to mitigate scalping to some extent.
Can I still order the console anywhere? Our contacts at Gamestop informed us that it is still possible to order the limited version of the new Xbox console at some stores. So if you really want one, it might be worth calling the stores near you to see if they are still accepting pre-orders.
Have you tried to pre-order the sleek Halo Xbox? Were you successful or were you left empty-handed? What do you think of the console’s design in general? Share your thoughts in the comments.
