We show you what you need to pay attention to if you want to level up faster in the regular multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
For the first time in the history of the Call of Duty series, Black Ops 4 does not have a single-player campaign. The focus of Black Ops 4 is clearly on the multiplayer experience. In the following guide, we explain how you can level up faster in the traditional multiplayer part of Black Ops 4.
Leveling up faster in Black Ops 4 multiplayer – What you should know
What does leveling up in Black Ops 4 bring? Leveling up in the traditional multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 grants you rewards that you can use in various modes of the game as you progress. These include, for example, perks, scorestreaks, or weapons.
Additionally, after reaching the maximum level of 55, you can unlock the prestige mode – an additional challenge in Black Ops 4’s progression system.

What levels you up in Black Ops 4 multiplayer? You can level up in the regular multiplayer of Black Ops 4 by earning XP – experience points. You collect these points in multiplayer matches by:
- Victories and match bonuses
- Completing challenges
- Earn medals
- Damaging opponents – that is, assists
- Kills
- Using specialist abilities or weapons
Keep in mind: No experience points can be earned in local multiplayer or in custom modes!
Choose the right game modes
You earn XP for just about everything in the multiplayer of Black Ops 4. However, especially at the beginning, it can be crucial which mode you choose in multiplayer.

The right modes for beginners: For beginners, it is easiest to start in objective-based modes. Domination, Hardpoint, or Search & Destroy are excellent for this.
In these modes, you can also earn points by focusing on objectives, capturing points, planting, or defusing bombs. Even if you’re not very accurate yet and can’t get many kills, you can still collect quite a bit of experience points this way.
The right modes for advanced players: Advanced players can dive into classic Team Deathmatch. Particularly in a coordinated team, you can collect XP excellently here. New players who have gotten used to the weapons and regularly get kills can also venture into this mode.
Team Deathmatch features intense battles where you can quickly accumulate a lot of kills, assists, medals, and scorestreaks. Additionally, the mode only has one round that runs relatively quickly. Nevertheless, you receive the same match rewards as in more time-consuming modes that run over three rounds.

Collect Medals
What are Medals? One of the best and fastest ways to earn XP is by collecting medals. Medals are essentially in-game achievements that include an XP reward for completing certain tasks, which you can often earn multiple times in each match.
What kinds of medals are there? Whether you’re seeking revenge on your killer, taking out an opponent with a remote-controlled charge, landing the first kill of a match, or simply securing a victory – there are numerous medals that can easily earn you more than 500 additional experience points.
The medals you’ve already earned and their requirements can be viewed under the Barracks section and then Combat in the multiplayer menu.

Complete Challenges
The traditional multiplayer part of Black Ops 4 offers numerous challenges. If you successfully complete these challenges, you will be rewarded with experience points.
What are challenges? These are tasks that need to be fulfilled – similar to the medals. However, these challenges are often more time-consuming and complex. Many of them require far more than just one match to complete. However, you can be rewarded with 500-1,500 XP. For completing specific multi-stage challenge quests, you can even earn up to 5,000 XP.
What kinds of challenges are there? The challenges are divided into several categories and can be viewed under the challenges section in the multiplayer menu along with their requirements.

Use Specialist Weapons and Abilities
Using specialist abilities and weapons can also earn you considerable bonus XP. For example, using Recon’s Sensor Arrow grants extra experience points for revealing opponents.
So remember to familiarize yourself with the specifics of each specialist and use them accordingly in battle. Especially new players often forget that the characters in Black Ops 4 offer more than just their currently equipped weapon.
Pay attention to Double XP Events
There will be numerous double XP events during which extra bonus experience points can be earned.

So keep an eye out for announcements from Treyarch and Activision on social media and in the game itself. These events are ideal for progressing through the leveling phase faster – especially if you are chasing the next prestige level.
This is how you enter the Prestige Mode of Black Ops 4
What is Prestige Mode? Prestige Mode is an additional challenge in the progression system of numerous Call of Duty titles – including Black Ops 4. After reaching the maximum level of 55, you can switch to Prestige. There are a total of 10 Prestige levels that you can work your way through.
How does Prestige Mode work? By switching to Prestige, you are reset back to level 1. However, you will earn new prestige challenges and can earn specific exclusive items that are only available through prestige – such as prestige calling cards or prestige symbols.
Then the leveling begins again until you reach level 55 once more. At this point, you can have yourself reset back to level 1 again and therefore advance to the next prestige rank.

How to unlock prestige symbols? To unlock a prestige symbol in Call of Duty Black Ops 4, you need to level your profile in traditional multiplayer to level 55 and then switch to prestige. Then you get the first prestige symbol.
To unlock additional prestige symbols, you need to continue participating in regular multiplayer matches and earn experience there until you reach the maximum level of 55 once again. Then you can reset your rank and advance to the next prestige level – including the corresponding symbol.
