LoL developer Riot has already released the major update 1.0 for the card game Legends of Runeterra today, April 28. The huge patch completely overhauls the game and brings a ton of new features, including the highly anticipated mobile version.
What’s included in the update? In today’s update 1.0 “Rising Tides” for Legends of Runeterra, the beta status of the card game is being removed, and it is officially released. Or at least it will be by April 30, as the developers write. Apparently, the distribution takes a while. The new update brings:
- a new region: Bilgewater
- 120 new cards, including 11 new champions
- six new keywords
- a bunch of new cosmetics like boards, card backs, and champions
- a login bonus – log in daily and receive a reward each day, and on the 7th day, even a new deck
We have embedded the trailer for the update here for you:
Additionally, with today’s release, the mobile version will be released, which is expected to appear on PC after the patch process is completed. Here you can find the download:
- Legends of Runeterra for iOS in the Apple App Store
- Legends of Runeterra for Android in the Google Play Store
After players slowly lost interest in Legends of Runeterra back in February 2020, the mobile version could bring a resurgence.
The competition has already proven this. Hearthstone for smartphones was quite successful, even surpassing the PC version back in 2015 and is among the best mobile games:
Patch notes and highlights for update 1.0
What kind of new region is this? Bilgewater is a port city and home to the pirates Miss Fortune and Gangplank.
The region has a strongly maritime theme, which is reflected in the new keywords:
- Deep: Gains +3/+3 when there are less than 15 cards left in the deck
- Scout: Prepare for the attack when scouts are the only units attacking for the first time in a round
- Vulnerable: This unit can be challenged by opponents
- Attune: When I am summoned, refill 1 spell mana
- Plunder: Activates the ability when played if damage was dealt to the enemy Nexus this round
- Toss: Destroy X cards from the bottom of your deck (no champions)
With these new keywords, completely new decks are likely to emerge soon, which will replace even the 5 strong decks of the first LoR champion. Until then, players will have to experiment a lot.
What new cards are there? The total of 120 new cards mostly belong to the new region Bilgewater. However, there are also 11 new champions, one for each region and five for Bilgewater. For a complete list of new cards and champions, Riot refers to various sites like mobalytics.
If you want to build new decks soon, you can get cards faster without having to buy them with a trick. The paths of the regions have been slightly adjusted with the update, however.
What new cosmetics are there? The new cosmetics from “Rising Tides” include:
- 10 new card backs
- one new game board
- 2 new champions
- 10 emotes
Those who played the beta will receive a special reward: the Luna Poro. You can secure the cute, blue furball by logging into Legends of Runeterra by Friday, May 8 at 8:59 AM.
The complete list of changes and patch notes can be found on the official website of Legends of Runeterra.
Details on iOS and Android
For the new mobile versions of Legends of Runeterra, there is some information from the developers about what your iOS or Android device should be able to handle. The minimum requirements are:
for iOS
- iOS 9
- Arm64 processor
- more than 1GB RAM – it can work with less, but may cause issues
for Android
- OS 5.0
- 2 GB RAM
- GPU Adreno 306 or similar or better
The update is potentially the last chance for Legends of Runeterra not to fade into obscurity. Whether “Rising Tides” can turn things around remains to be seen. Currently, players will likely first have to deal with the new cards, new decks, and a new meta.
