Last weekend, the open beta of the spiritual successor to Ultima Online, Legends of Aria, took place and excited the fans.
Today, the head start for founders begins. The early access phase will officially start on December 4, 2018.
Ultima Online has a spiritual successor
What is Legends of Aria? The MMORPG by Citadel Studios aims to be a kind of modern Ultima Online. The online game is heavily inspired by the classic, appealing to players who wish for such an experience again.
- You explore the vast world of Celdaor from an isometric perspective
- Through a skill system, you can freely enhance your character; there are no predefined classes
- The role you take in the world is up to you. You can, for example, build a smithy and become a master blacksmith
- The search for treasures is an important aspect of the MMORPG
- PvP takes place in special zones
- Groups and guilds are encouraged
- Together, you build cities that you expand and even manage
- You can host your own servers, called “Shards“, and create your own worlds with your rules, where other players can then be active
Good vibes among the players
How was the open beta received? The open beta, which took place from November 23 to 25, excited many players. They saw the parallels to Ultima Online and felt right at home. The many freedoms that one enjoys in the vast world were praised. The sandbox aspect is clearly evident. The revamped graphics were generally well-received.
Criticism was directed at the controls, which feel unintuitive, as well as the game’s performance. There were frequent lag issues. However, many are excited for the start of the early access phase and believe that Legends of Aria has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Ultima Online.
What comes next? Today, on November 27, for everyone who purchased a corresponding founder package on the official website of the MMORPG, the head start for the early access phase begins.
Regular early access then starts on December 4 also via Steam.
