Legendary gems are one of your most important sources for more power in Diablo Immortal. There are many rumors about them regarding Pay2Win. MeinMMO explains how you can obtain the items without paying.

Where do I get legendary gems? Currently, there are 5 sources to obtain legendary gems:
- Elder portals – the primary source
- Crafting with earnable materials
- Purchase with in-game currency on the marketplace and from the vendor
- limited in the Battle Pass
- partially in the shop for real money
Especially because of the Elder portals, there are heavy Pay2Win accusations against Diablo Immortal, as you are guaranteed gems for legendary emblems. The emblems can be easily purchased.
However, you can also earn the popular stones and even the best legendary gem in the game by playing. The path may take a while and is not necessarily obvious. We explain each step in detail and all the currencies you need for it.

Farming Legendary Gems – Tips and Tricks
How to farm legendary gems: If you want to actively farm legendary gems, you need to run through Elder portals and enhance them with emblems. There are two types of emblems:
- legendary emblems that guarantee you a legendary gem
- rare emblems that provide a chance for a gem
It doesn’t matter how many emblems you use. The rewards scale linearly, so you receive the same amount of rewards for 3 portals with one emblem as for one portal with 3 emblems.
You can buy legendary emblems for real money in the shop, but both methods also work completely free of charge.
How do I do it for free? You receive legendary emblems for free in the Battle Pass at level 20 and once a month from the Hilt vendor in Westmark. For 1,600 Hilt, you get one emblem. You mainly receive Hilt:
- for steps in the Battle Pass
- from the Codex
- as a reward for faction quests
Since Patch 1.5.2 and the previous Season 2 of Diablo Immortal, there are additional ways to obtain legendary emblems:
- time-limited events like the new “Path of the Adventurer” or the recurring “Hungry Moon” event
- in exchange for 1,600 Platinum each week when you complete a troop raid
- in exchange for 22 Fa runes at the jeweler
The emblems for Platinum and Fa runes are also “eternal” – you can even sell the resulting gems in the auction house. This is not possible with the “regular” legendary emblems.
As part of the Shadow faction, you can earn additional legendary emblems in the Shadow War. This takes place every week among the best shadow clans to possibly crown new Immortals.
If you are part of the Immortals, you can buy another legendary emblem each month from the Hilt vendor. If your clan becomes Immortal, you should immediately flock to the vendor. You can find out more about the factions in our guide to the Shadows and Immortals.
Rare emblems are also available in the Battle Pass, daily at the Elder portal, and also for Hilt from the vendor. The rare emblems are also limited but available in significantly greater numbers.
Rare emblems are more important than you think
Even though the community often criticizes that only legendary emblems really provide a benefit, rare emblems are not completely useless. In addition to the chance of a gem, you also receive guaranteed runes and a greater yield of Fading Sparks.
The sparks are only available in the portals, and you need them to buy more runes. This gets complicated as the dozens of different runes can lead to confusion.
In short: you need runes to craft legendary gems and purchase legendary emblems. This system is your best source for the absolute best gems you can get in the game if you do not want to pay.

Crafting Legendary Gems – All Materials Explained
Which gems can I craft? At every jeweler, you have the option to craft legendary gems with one star, two stars, or “up to 5 stars.”
Gems with a fixed number of stars can be recognized by their stars being filled and golden. They can either be crafted directly or randomly made, but always with a fixed number of stars.
Other gems have stars or grayed-out, empty stars after the filled star to indicate they are not at maximum.
What do I need for that? To craft all gems, you need various runes:
- 1-star gems: 7 Ati runes and 2 normal runes (varies by gem)
- 2-star gems: 28 Ati runes and 2 magical runes (varies by gem)
- random gem with 1 star: 7 Fa runes
- random gem with 2 stars: 28 Fa runes
- random gem with 1, 2 or 5 stars: 22 Fa runes
- for 22 Fa runes, you can also buy a legendary emblem – more on that below
You receive all runes from Elder portals with rare emblems. Each emblem guarantees you 4 random runes except for Fa as well as one Fading Spark. Fa runes can only be obtained from the vendor for Fading Sparks right next to the portal.
The sparks are still received from Elder portals even if you do not use emblems. So you will receive between 8 and 11 sparks guaranteed for each run. One Fa rune costs 18 Fading Sparks:
- to craft a legendary gem with up to 5 stars, you need to complete 50 portals without an emblem (actually: 49.5)
- if you use 3 rare emblems, you only need 36 portals, but in total, you will need 108 emblems
However, there is a limit of 280 sparks per week and a bonus limit of a total of 120 sparks per week for used emblems.
Crafting 5-Star Gems – What You Need to Know
If you use the option to craft a random gem with “up to 5 stars,” that is exactly what is meant. There’s no guarantee you’ll receive 5 stars. The chance of that is relatively low.
The infamous “5* Gems” can also drop or be crafted with fewer stars. So if you ever read something in chat about a “2/5 Star,” you’ll know that a gem with potentially 5 stars but only 2 actual stars is being referred to.
However, it’s advisable not to wait until you have the “perfect stone.” While upgrading, the invested gem power accumulates, and you can even increase the stars of gems once you find a matching gem with more stars.
Upgrades always pay off, as you can later use that stone to upgrade other gems. The invested gem power also scales linearly, so it is fully retained. Gems with potentially 5 stars are usually necessary or useful for builds even without their full power.
Buying Legendary Emblems for Fa Runes
Since Patch 1.5.2, you can also simply buy a legendary emblem from the jeweler for 22 Fa runes. As a player calculated, the emblem is significantly more worthwhile than crafting legendary gems.
The reason is that with the emblems, you have a “mercy counter.” Every 50th emblem gives you a guaranteed gem with ?/5 stars. However, this is not the case with crafting, which significantly increases the value of the emblems.
Since you can also sell the corresponding gems, you have an additional way to earn Platinum – either when the gem is useless for your class or you prefer to stick with weaker gems that have a higher rank.
Since you can also receive guaranteed Fading Sparks and runes with the emblems, grinding is also worthwhile if you want to invest many hours in Diablo Immortal. Other sources of loot, such as legendary equipment or upgrade materials, seem to be subject to certain limits:
