YouTuber Leeroy Matata (26) announced the end of his career in a video from November 28 after coming under criticism. He acknowledges his own mistakes but also makes accusations against Rezo and especially against the Twitch streamer MontanaBlack. He accuses MontanaBlack of portraying himself as a moral authority, while in reality, MontanaBlack is lazy, stupid, and has driven viewers to ruin and suicide.
This is the situation:
- YouTuber Leeroy has 2.43 million subscribers on YouTube; he was long part of the public broadcasting project “Funk”.
- On his channel “Leeroy wants to know,” he addressed serious topics since 2018. In the format, he met and interviewed people with unusual fates. He also staged confrontations between individuals with extreme views, including criminals and victims.
- Now he has announced the end of his career. He no longer wants to produce YouTube videos and will withdraw from social media. He cites the increased pressure from the public as the reason.
Intense criticism of Leeroy by other YouTubers
What was the criticism directed at him? Leeroy has faced significant criticism from other YouTubers in recent months for several videos and statements:
- He allegedly misrepresented the story of a young man who had his legs lengthened. He purportedly showed that the man could not walk well. To illustrate this, images were shown immediately after the operation. The man can now walk much better and felt misrepresented in the piece.
- Additionally, Leeroy conducted an interview with the last survivor of the Hitler assassination attempt. Critics argued that the survivor used the opportunity to distort history and downplay the Holocaust. Leeroy was accused of not intervening here.
- Furthermore, Leeroy allegedly provided a platform in confrontational formats for a zoophile, which appeared to suggest that the sexual abuse of animals is a controversial opinion one can hold, rather than a crime.
Leeroy says: He is not a journalist, but a YouTuber
This is what Leeroy says now: In the YouTube video, Leeroy admitted his own mistakes. He stated that he made the mistake of accepting the label “journalist” that was imposed on him from the outside. This came with expectations he could not meet.
He is not a journalist but makes YouTube videos to entertain and bring topics to the public.
He has learned from some mistakes: After a format with an AFD politician, he realized that he should not invite politicians because they always use the opportunity to promote themselves. Following the criticism of this video, he stopped inviting politicians.
In the criticized video, he vehemently opposed the AFD man in the “rough cut,” but this was later removed from the video to avoid appearing biased. He wanted people to be convinced by the stronger arguments. He regrets this in hindsight.
“That was a mistake. I understand why many people wanted me to take a clear stance in such a video.”
Nevertheless, he feels unjustly criticized and misrepresented by some YouTubers. His work, which has often had positive effects, is reduced only to the negative.
“You can destroy the CDU and not Google for 5 minutes?”
This is what he says against Rezo: Leeroy seems particularly disappointed with Rezo. They had met once, and Rezo expressed his appreciation for Leeroy.
Now, however, Leeroy accuses Rezo of having said in front of millions that Leeroy promotes gambling. He deeply rejects gambling. Rezo, he claims, did not know the context of the situation, made false conclusions, and made accusations live:
“In the end, Rezo casually states in front of millions of people that I am advertising for casino and gambling. And the accusation he simply throws out disappoints me greatly, as I have met so many affected by gambling addiction.”
Leeroy asks: Rezo can destroy the entire CDU, but can’t spare 5 minutes for research on this topic or make a quick phone call?
He accuses the YouTuber: Rezo has no interest in improving or changing Leeroy’s content. It was only about criticizing, profiling himself, and making money.
This is what Leeroy says against MontanaBlack: Leeroy has a particular grievance with MontanaBlack.
He is annoyed by criticism from MontanaBlack, who commented on the video with the zoophile who violates dogs.
“Just think about it; you call me an accomplice of such sick shit in front of millions. That just doesn’t register in my mind.”
MontanaBlack is lazy – he didn’t even watch the video himself, only saw a reaction. Thus, he spreads a lot of misinformation.
Moreover, MontanaBlack is “stupid,” believing that the “30 under 30 list” by Forbes is about representing the richest people under 30, when he could have found out in 3 seconds of Google that it’s not about that, but about influential people.
Leeroy also accuses MontanaBlack of wildly speculating about possible reasons instead of simply asking him why a statement comes only after 2 weeks.
Fellow YouTubers are annoyed that MontanaBlack, with his reach, can reach so many people who then believe things that turn out to be false and which Leeroy, with his lesser reach, cannot correct.
MontanaBlack has made millions driving others into gambling addiction
Leeroy finds it particularly audacious that MontanaBlack judges him morally. He is in no position to do so. MontanaBlack is said to have earned millions of euros by driving others into gambling addiction and thus into suicide.
“Instead of philosophizing in streams about what I might earn, you should rather estimate how many people you, dear Monte, as a casino junkie have driven into gambling addiction. How many families have been destroyed by your streams and how many people, due to addiction and the resulting helplessness, have taken their own lives.”
Leeroy says he knows that casino streamers are financially involved in the loss of their viewers.
“How disgusting can one be to do such a thing for years?”
Does MontanaBlack do gambling then? MontanaBlack has not streamed gambling on Twitch for many years. Apparently there are legal reasons for this. However, he has continued to be criticized for opening loot boxes in games like FIFA or CS:GO. This was a topic at “ZDF Magazin Royal.”
MontanaBlack still seems to have a divided opinion on gambling. He explained in 2022 why his gambling on Twitch was okay, but the current actions of other streamers are not.
The streamer also hinted at moving out of Germany to a country where he would pay less tax and could stream gambling again:
