Jeff Kaplan clarifies one of the most persistent misconceptions about Overwatch – this is likely to mean some relaxation for most players.
A typical game of Overwatch is usually quick and intense. However, since the time we all can spend gaming is quite limited, many players try to squeeze the maximum playtime out of it. There’s no time for long stays in lobbies, and the statistics at the end are rather annoying. Who wants to see the evaluation and use their “vote” for any maps with the performance of the players when they could already be in the next match?
This is what many players think. Because on the “end screen”, a large portion of the players has often already disappeared to join a new queue.
Those who rush do not find a match faster
In the official forum, Game Director Jeff Kaplan has now commented on the topic and revealed a “fun fact”:
Leaving the game after the victory/defeat screen does not save any time. The matchmaker only allows players back into the queue once the previous match has completely finished, which also includes the Play of the Game and the statistics.
However, he emphasizes in a later post that there are no disadvantages if players leave the match after “victory” or “defeat”. Only the waiting time will be increased by the seconds the old match still lasts.
In plain language, this means that all players can comfortably watch the “Play of the Game”, the statistics, and the performance cards. Because before the timer for that runs out, you won’t find a new match anyway.
Have you always left matches right after “victory” or “defeat”? Will you now stay until the very end because it really makes no difference?
By the way, the next in-game event is coming soon in Overwatch – the “Uprising” is returning!
