Many leaks and rumors about BlizzCon 2018 are circulating. But what is true about an Overwatch campaign or a remake for Diablo 2? We shed light on these leaks and more for WoW, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and Starcraft 2.
BlizzCon also means that there are some leaks and theories every year about what Blizzard will announce at the convention. In 2018, there are again numerous people spreading supposed leaks from the upcoming announcements – distinguishing the truth from the lie is hardly possible.
Nevertheless, it’s always exciting to see what people imagine and hope for. Therefore, we present to you here a “leak” that should be taken with caution, but is considered “rather likely” in various forums, as the announcements at least sound convincing.
The most attention in recent days has been garnered by a post on 4chan, which has been hotly debated in various subreddits around Blizzard games.
What do the Diablo leaks say? Diablo 3 fans have already had to lower their expectations, as there will probably be no Diablo 4 at BlizzCon. Instead, the informant promises:
- Diablo 2 “Remastered” – announcement and details
- New DLC for Diablo 3 – the Druid as a playable class
- Announcement for a Diablo “Beat ’em up” for Android and iOS
How likely are the Diablo leaks? Since Blizzard has already released StarCraft in “remastered” form in the past, Diablo 2 could also be considered for a remastered version.
The Druid has been a topic of discussion for some time now.
The Diablo fighting game sounds rather unlikely – but maybe Blizzard will surprise us.
What do the Overwatch leaks say? In Overwatch, there are several major announcements that are supposed to be revealed at BlizzCon. These include:
- A cinematic featuring McCree, Reaper, Sombra, and the new villain “Nemesis”
- Hero 29: Nemesis. A cyborg who can hold enemies with electric nets and jump particularly high.
- More skins in the “Blizzard World” style: Zenyatta as a monk, Mercy as a spirit healer, Genji as a blade master, Symmetra as a sorceress, D.Va as Kerrigan, Winston as a prime zerg
- Story game mode and details. PvE missions will not be part of seasonal events but can be unlocked through credits and new loot boxes.
How likely are the Overwatch leaks? Probably, no one doubts that there will be a new cinematic. It’s also time for a new hero, but Nemesis sounds just as good as any other.
There has been a long discussion about a campaign, but the marketing strategy seems strange. Putting story missions in loot boxes or unlocking them with credits seems strange and inappropriate. We don’t give this high chances.
What do the Hearthstone leaks say? In Hearthstone, leaks and speculation are always a bit boring because everyone already knows what will be announced: a new expansion.
According to the 4chan user, the expansion is supposed to be titled “Secrets of the Seas” and will revolve around Naga, pirates, and Vrykul. There will also be a new streaming mode allowing PC players to stream matches directly through Blizzard chats.
How likely are the Hearthstone leaks? At least the streaming mode in Hearthstone’s social chats seems rather unlikely, considering that Blizzard is heavily collaborating with other platforms like Twitch. There’s little to say about the “Secrets of the Seas” expansion – thematically, it would fit well with the current developments in World of Warcraft, where it could likewise soon go deep into the sea.
What do the Warcraft leaks say? The most predictions are about World of Warcraft. No wonder, there are currently two titles: the ongoing “Battle for Azeroth” and Classic, which can be tested in a demo at BlizzCon. The “leaks” promise:
- Lots of details about patch 8.1
- Feralas as a new warfront will be presented
- All legacy armor sets of all races will be showcased
- A flying octopus mount paired with a charity event
- The starting zones of the Blood Elves and Draenei will be revamped (including flying)
Additionally, there are two announcements regarding World of Warcraft: Classic:
- The classic WoW is set to be released in November 2019
- The classic WoW will require a subscription
How likely are the Warcraft leaks? Particularly the Warcraft leaks seem especially unrealistic. Speaking about the upcoming patch at BlizzCon, which is largely already known, would be a waste of time. Presenting all legacy armors seems unrealistic as well, considering that only a maximum of 2 are introduced per patch.
What do the “Heroes of the Storm” leaks say? For Blizzard’s MOBA Heroes of the Storm, there is supposed to be a new cinematic introducing two new playable heroes. These are expected to be Reinhardt (Overwatch) and Mannoroth (Warcraft). Additionally, there is supposed to be a new “Dark Nexus” event with fresh skins for Dehaka, Ragnaros, and Kerrigan. Aside from that:
- A clan system is to be implemented, facilitating group searches and creating new incentives to play
- The “Mega Hero Bundles” are to return
- Gameplay changes for mounts, hearthstones, and respawn timers
How likely are the “Heroes of the Storm” leaks? The announcement of two new heroes is quite likely, and Reinhardt and Mannoroth would fit well into the hero selection. The leaks seem at least credible.
What do the StarCraft leaks say? For StarCraft 2, only two updates are announced, neither of which is particularly large. One is supposed to be Zeratul as a Co-op Commander, while the other is a larger Alarak DLC with the questline “Chain of Ascension,” similar to the Nova story.
How likely are the StarCraft leaks? The StarCraft leaks also appear at least logical and credible, although these two announcements might lead to disappointment. Major news are not expected in StarCraft anyway.
Please consider that the alleged leak could also turn out to be a complete lie. We will only see the actual revelations next weekend.
However, there should be plenty of incentives for discussions and speculations.
What do you think about the plans that this “leak” announces? Does it sound likely and fitting? Would you be happy about these announcements?
