The YouTube channel of SupMatto has been shut down. He was a ‘super fan’ of Borderlands 3, but he repeatedly had problematic leaks.
Despite all the positive energy and hype around Borderlands 3, there have been some issues over the past few days. A YouTuber leaked many insider information about Borderlands 3 and has since had private investigators on his tail. Now, 2K, the publisher behind Borderlands 3, is accused of practically “claiming the life out of” the YouTuber’s channel.
What is it about? We are talking about the YouTuber SupMatto. He is not only a long-time “super fan” of Borderlands, but he has also gained more traction in recent months. This was largely due to the fact that he allegedly possessed a wealth of insider information according to 2K.
Apparently, there was someone at Gearbox who provided him with information, and 2K wanted to take action against that. Initially, they used private investigators who observed SupMatto for 10 months.
More than 100 “Copyright Claims” shut down the channel: Anyone who took a look at SupMatto’s channel yesterday could see that nearly half of his videos had disappeared. They are either set to “private” or can no longer be accessed.
The reason given for these videos is that the content cannot be retrieved because 2K has cited a copyright infringement, and the respective video has thus been taken offline.
These more than 100 copyright claims likely led to SupMatto’s channel being completely deleted.
Can 2K just do that? Basically, one must say: Yes, they can. Borderlands 3 and the previous installments are the intellectual property of the developers and publishers. They can generally take action against “Let’s Plays” or other content that is published. However, such videos are usually tolerated or even welcomed, as they represent free advertising.
However, the rights holders have the ability to prohibit the distribution of these videos.
Many claims to ban the channel: The suspicion is now likely that 2K has simply claimed all of SupMatto’s videos wildly to ensure that the channel was subsequently closed. This would at least explain why some videos were flagged with a copyright claim even though they did not contain leaked information.
The entire situation is still a bit opaque, and it’s hard to get an objective picture of it. Therefore, one might want to take the words in this case with a grain of salt and see what else will be revealed regarding this matter.
