Thanks to a leak, we can take a first look at the movie for Monster Hunter World. The monster Diablos and even the Field Expert can be seen.
Where does the leak come from? As Eurogamer reports, the clip was secretly recorded at the Shanghai International Film Festival. The clip is now circulating.
What can be seen in the teaser? In the leaked clip, we get to see a monster for the first time. The Diablos, a dangerous monster found in the desert that attacks from the ground, is shown. At the end of the teaser, a Rathalos is presumably visible, breaking through a wall of fire.
Also featured is actress Milla Jovovich, who plays the role of Lt. Artemis in the film. The woman and her military unit get caught in a world infested with monsters. Actor Tony Jaa also makes an appearance in the teaser, playing a mysterious monster hunter. He is seen here with a bow and arrow.
First set photos were criticized by fans
What was criticized? For many fans of the series, the disappointment was already great when it became known that Milla Jovovich would play the lead role and Paul W.S. Anderson would direct. His last adaptation of a video game (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) was not well received by gamers. His wife Jovovich also played the lead role in that.
As set photos from the film for Monster Hunter World were gradually released, the fans became really angry:
- There were mainly military images
- The quality of the costumes and weapons was criticized
- No connection could be recognized between the images and Monster Hunter
Later, there was at least one image that gave fans some hope. In it, a hunter with a great sword and typical armor for Monster Hunter can be seen.
However, no monsters were visible at any time.
Why does the leak look surprisingly good? Contrary to initial fears, many scenes in the teaser look quite authentic:
- The Diablos appears well-animated and shows even the monster’s attack patterns. It bursts out of the desert sand and lets out a loud roar.
- Two characters familiar from the game Monster Hunter World can be seen. A woman who looks like the Field Expert and the Admiral with his massive white hair also seems to have an appearance.
- The shown hunter with a bow and arrow wears traditional Monster Hunter armor.
Overall, the teaser looks much better than the initial set photos suggested. There is little evidence of a military tone. In post-production, the props, such as the armors, now appear to be of higher quality.
