The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is just around the corner, but a leak is already revealing what kind of CoD will hit the market in 2021. Apparently, it will once again be a title from the Modern Warfare series.
What does the leak say? The known leaker Tom Henderson has once again picked up information about Call of Duty. According to him, the next game in the series is supposed to be released in 2021 and will again come from the developer Infinity Ward. Furthermore, it will once again be a game from the Modern Warfare series. Tom Henderson has mostly been right with his leaks in the past. For example, he leaked the Warzone.
The third CoD studio alongside Infinity Ward and Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, will probably not be involved in the current CoD cycle.
This indicates Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
What else does the leaker say? In his tweet, Tom Henderson stated that he learned from a reliable source that the latest Call of Duty will again have a modern setting. Other than that, not much is known. For him, the title would logically be “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2”.
That was already the name of the successor to the original Modern Warfare from 2007. However, since the reboot of 2019 had the same name, it’s quite possible that the developers will settle for the simple name “Modern Warfare 2” for the 2021 game.
What is CoD 2021 about? At the end of the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Captain Price wants to establish a special unit to take down the Russian terrorist Victor Zakhaev. So, if the next CoD is again a Modern Warfare, that should be the plot of the new campaign. Evil Russians will probably once again be a theme of the game.
How is the leak being received by the players? The reactions under Tom Henderson’s tweet are mixed:
- User Bevan loves Modern Warfare and Black Ops, but would like to see a new series instead of the same things in the reboot over and over again.
- User Booyo is already looking forward to the new campaign and can’t wait to see how it continues.
- Joseph Ryan, on the other hand, is a bit worried because Modern Warfare became a good game thanks to the 3 years of development time. However, part 2 has only 2 years, which concerns him.
So much for the leaks about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from Infinity Ward. The modern setting will probably also fit well with Warzone. The battle royale mode is supposed to connect all future CoD games, which is especially applicable to the upcoming game in the series. Because Black Ops Cold War is likely to have much more influence on Warzone than initially assumed.
