A leak promises that Xbox owners can soon look forward to new accessories. This concerns a new storage expansion for the console. We explain why everyone is waiting for it at MeinMMO.
It has now been about 1 year since the Xbox Series X was officially released. Those who managed to get a console despite the shortage will want to buy suitable accessories for their Xbox Series X. However, many users are frustrated with one accessory, and that is the additional storage. The storage is really expensive, and it is only available from one manufacturer, which in this case feels like a monopoly.
A leak now reveals that the situation could improve at least a little, as a cheaper expansion is said to be on the way.
Where does the leak come from? The online site WindowsCentral published some product images from a specialty retailer (via windowscentral.com). Here, it can already be seen that the product is likely available in some US stores.
Storage space is the biggest problem for active gamers
Those who play many games or actively try out the Game Pass on Xbox will eventually run out of storage space. This is especially true for large online games that require a lot of space on the drive.
That’s why many users wish for an affordable expansion: The current storage expansion costs 230 Euros and is therefore very expensive. There’s no alternative, as so far only the Seagate expansion is approved for the Xbox Series X|S.

For comparison: For a regular SSD that you can install in your computer or PS4, you currently pay around 100 Euros. The price of the 1TB storage expansion is therefore significantly higher than conventional SSD prices. However, you cannot install regular hard drives in the Xbox Series X.
A smaller variant now fuels hope among users that there will also be a cheaper option for additional storage in the future. Many users simply find the storage expansion for the Xbox too expensive.
The PS5 takes a different approach than the Xbox
The PS5 does not have this problem because you can install compatible SSDs in your console since the last major update. Although you are not restricted to a specific SSD as with the Xbox, there’s still no whitelist from Sony yet.
