In League of Legends, the unloved champion Urgot had his moment of glory last weekend.
Urgot is currently considered the weakest champion in the efficiency-focused “League of Legends.” The crab-like undead with a hint of robot has such an unconventional playstyle that very few can handle him. He swaps his position with the opponent, simply doesn’t have the necessary range as a ranged AD carry, and somehow fits into no conventional role.

He is a so-called “troll pick,” for which you get looked at sideways when you select him in the lobby, and there are some memes and running gags that refer to Urgot.
Last weekend, an “LCS” match took place between one of the most well-known LoL teams “Team Solo Mid” and “Gravity.” During the champion selection, the unbelievable happened: Gravity’s mid-laner chose Urgot (who was picked last and then swapped for him).
It was clear to the absolute pros that if anyone would use Urgot, it would be Keane, the player from Gravity. In his private streams, Keane had played Urgot in Solo Queue several times. His followers often teased him that he should play it when it really mattered. But that he would actually do it was something hardly anyone expected.
The commentators couldn’t believe it at that moment either: “I will open the Wiki page of Urgot!” said one. “I can’t believe they actually allowed him to do it.”

In the match, the selection of Urgot caused severe irritation among the opponents of Team Solo Mid. They had no plan for this unconventional attack.

Especially the opposing midlaner Bjergsen, one of the most popular League players, had a tough time with his Zed and was already down 20 creeps by the seventh minute. Just before the 12-minute mark, however, Keane became so “greedy,” as he later said in an interview, that he wanted to take down the star player Bjergsen and went a bit overboard, dying at the tower. But that did not change the outcome of the match. In a teamfight against TSM’s AD-heavy group, Gravity won decisively, Urgot achieved 3 kills here, and from then on, the match was virtually decided.
Urgots moment of glory caused such a hype on social media that “Urgot” even took up one of the trending spots on Twitter.
