The Pre-Worlds patch in LoL will change some aspects of the game.
Often, just before the World Championships, several things in League of Legends are changed to make the game more interesting. After the developers at RiotGames were not satisfied with how the early game became increasingly monotonous and a lane swap with early tower push became standard in recent patches, several changes will now be implemented in this regard.
Stronger Towers, Rotating Cannon Minions
Those who have watched professional LoL matches (such as the LCS) in recent weeks and months will have noticed that there are hardly any games without early tower pushes and lane swaps.
The following changes are being made to Towers:
- New: “First Blood: Tower” – the first destroyed tower now grants a “First Blood” reward of 400g (+275 local, +25 global)
- New: The tower AI has been updated and is now better at defending allied champions (Coming with Patch 6.16)
More Stable Towers
The Fortification Buff of the towers has been changed to alter the “faster push” strategy.
- Duration of the Fortification Buff:

Cannon Minions Rotate from Lane to Lane
Cannon minions are also set to bring variety to the game with a new rotation.
- Each team gets 1 cannon minion per minion wave – These rotate on the lanes.
- Specifically: The bot lane receives a cannon minion with the 3rd wave, the mid lane in the 4th wave, and the top lane in the 5th wave. This pattern repeats.
- After 20 minutes, the mid lane receives a cannon minion with the 40th wave, top and bot lane then in wave 41 – This pattern then repeats.
- After 35 minutes, each lane receives a cannon minion in every minion wave.

These Changes are Important for the Game!
As RiotScarizard writes in the official LoL forums, they are aware that these changes do not have the best timing. They would have liked to give players more time to adapt to this concept before the playoffs for the World Championship, but these changes are so important for the game that they prefer to implement them now rather than wait until after the World Championships.
The teams should also qualify in the meta for the World Championships as they will ultimately take place. Scarizard also writes that these are the last major changes being implemented in League of Legends before the World Championships.
