For the new season, Riot has planned some changes for League of Legends. In this overview, you can see what to expect.
On December 6th, the new season of League of Legends begins. However, the game will not just continue as it has before, as the developers have planned several changes that will be integrated into the game with the new season. The jungle will be altered, assassins will receive new abilities, and the solo queue is making a comeback. We will show you the details of these changes in our overview for the LoL season 2017.
Solo/Duo and Flex Queue
Riot admits to having made a major mistake by removing the Solo/Duo queue. Since the removal of this queue, some players have stopped playing ranked matches in League of Legends. The developers now want to do exactly what the fans desire. With the reactivation of the Solo Queue, you can play in ranked matches in Season 2017 either solo or with one other friend. You can now choose 2 favorite positions and one position that you do not wish to play.
In the Flex Queue, you can sign up with up to 5 players. This is the right queue for you if you want to play ranked matches together with your team. Here you will find more information and changes to the ranked mode for 2017.
Sandbox Mode and Replay Function
Another feature that fans of League of Legends have wished for a long time is the Sandbox Mode. This is a practice mode where you can set different configurations to practice with champions. This includes reducing cooldowns, unlimited gold, level locks, or even playing without minions. The practice mode allows you to improve your mechanics that can help you in various situations. For example, you can practice which walls you can jump over with Ziggs’ W and how to position yourself for that. Or, which obstacles you can flash over without “failing”. Additionally, there will be its own replay system that allows you to analyze or share matches you have played. You can also record individual clips showcasing the highlights of a game. New Client – Open Beta Coming Soon
The current client of League of Legends is no longer up to date in terms of appearance and performance. Therefore, players have long wanted a new client that fits the game. The developers have been working on a new client for some time now. It is currently still in the alpha testing phase, but this will end soon. After that, an open beta will be available for all players. Anyone who wants can download and try out the new client. Although not all features will be present in the test from the start, it is still worth trying. This is how the open beta of the new League of Legends client works.
Changes in the Jungle and Items
The player experience is set to change with the new season 2017. There will be more emphasis on adaptability and variety in games. To ensure that junglers do not just run through “checkpoints”, there will be interactive plants in the jungle. These plants grant bonuses such as refreshing health points, a knockback for nearby champions, or vision of an area nearby.
Additionally, some new defensive items will be introduced to the game, while others will be modified. The Aegis of the Legion, for example, no longer grants an aura that protects allies. New items include Oathsworn and Liberation Strike.
Oathsworn – Passive: As the bearer, you can make an ally your partner. When near the partner, you gain additional armor and increased movement speed. Damage taken by your partner is partially redirected to you. In exchange, you heal for a portion of the damage dealt by the partner.
Liberation Strike – Active: As the bearer, you select a specific area on the map where all allies (after a short delay) are healed. Enemies in this area take damage. This item can also be used while you are dead.

Changes to Assassins
The entire assassin class will undergo changes with the new season 2017. This includes new champion abilities, new items, and new camouflage mechanics. On the official League of Legends website, you will find the changes made to Fizz, Zed, Akali, Kha’Zix, Shaco, and Ekko.
