The MMORPG of League of Legends is currently in development. There is not much information yet, but thanks to a tweet, we know that the LoL champions will be included.
At the end of 2020, the LoL MMORPG was officially announced. Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, the former lead designer of WoW, is behind the game. However, there is still no official release date.
Recently, Ghostcrawler answered a question on Twitter from user @/ElderwoodEndo. This user tweeted: “I understand that we ourselves will not be champions in the MMO, but could there be any connection to our favorite champion?” As an example, he mentions the champion Azir, who he hopes to have by his side in the MMORPG.
Ghostcrawler’s response offers us exciting news. He tweeted: “The champions are the foundation of our IP. They must be included. However, we have many of them and need to do justice to all. It may take some time until every favorite is part of the game.”
The champions will definitely appear in the MMORPG. However, how exactly remains unclear. The developer merely promises to make a great effort with them, which may mean it will take a while before all champions are part of the game.
Previous Information about the LoL MMORPG
What kind of game is this? The MMORPG will take place in Runeterra, the same universe as League of Legends. However, it is still not known what the combat system will look like and from which perspective the game will be viewed. Fights in the isometric perspective, like in LoL itself, could be possible.
A first-person perspective cannot be ruled out either. Just as a third-person view, like in WoW. The combat system could function as tab targeting, which is more automatic, or as action combat like in ESO.
There are also initial statements regarding the game content. The LoL MMORPG is expected to focus on dungeons and raids in the endgame. Raids are supposed to be among the most important game content. The LoL MMORPG will likely focus heavily on group content.
There will also be PvP in the LoL MMO. However, we do not know how exactly it will work yet.
A release before 2024 is unlikely
When will the LoL MMORPG be released? Ghostcrawler revealed at the beginning of the year that the game is still in an early stage of development. There are also no videos or screenshots of gameplay yet. Likewise, no alpha has been announced.
Since there hasn’t even been a precise overview of the features so far, a release before 2024 is considered very unlikely. We at MeinMMO will continue to monitor the development of the MMORPG and keep you updated when there is news.
