After teasers from the developers and several hints, many players agree: The new League of Legends (LoL) champion will likely be a dark manta ray.
New champions are regularly released for the MOBA League of Legends by developer Riot Games. Often, the team drops hints on social media before the official announcement to spark discussions about the new character. This creates a certain hype even before the release.
Riot says the new hero will be a dark supporter, and the community is currently investigating who it could be.
Why do fans believe in a ray?
Initially, the developers provided hints in April in a roadmap about the new hero. They write that it’s time for a new support character. This new character should have a darker theme than most of the other supporters. The new champ is supposed to be aggressive and have a significant influence on the gameplay as a “playmaker”.
In addition, they released the following image, which looks as if it were taken underwater from a ship:
The outlines of a massive sea creature can be recognized in the image.
These shadows have been seen before: On Reddit, users quickly perked up, as they recognized the outlines or shadows. They associate them with the Battlecast series from LoL. For example, in the splash art of Vel’Koz, as seen here:
The recall animation of creator Viktor (who is considered the creator of the Battlecast monsters in the lore of League of Legends) features various Battlecast champions like Cho’Gath. Additionally, there is an unknown form that looks like … exactly: a ray!
If you look closely at Battlecast Urgot, you can also recognize a similar form with a lot of goodwill:
The hints point in a specific direction. This combination of clues regarding the manta ray gives fans hope that this creature from the water will be an addition to the Battlecast series of League of Legends and the new dark supporter. After all, Riot provided a strong hint with the underwater image.
It will be interesting to see how the “aggressive” supporter will play. Instead of protecting your allies, you will likely plunge the enemies into ruin. Will the fans be right with their manta ray theory?
