Korean player Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is considered a dominant player of the League of Legends of the last decade. However, his star seemed to be fading. Now he makes a spectacular comeback in LoL, especially against the reigning world champions Invictus Gaming.
What kind of play is this? The match is between the Koreans of SKT Telecom and the Chinese Invictus Gaming, who are regarded as the best LoL team in the world.
The game is already advanced. After 34 minutes, most players are around level 16. The Chinese team leads with 12 to 7 kills and is attacking SKT1’s base. It looks like a 4 vs 3 in favor of the Chinese.
At the beginning of the fight, Camille from SKT1 goes down quickly. Then Faker (23) enters the fight with the champ Azir. He charges from behind into the backline of Invictus Gaming and dismantles it piece by piece.
While the feared carry from Invictus Gaming, JackeyLove, is getting kills from SKT1 with Kai’Sa, Faker clears out the attackers.
Faker takes out the opposing Lux, while SKT Jungler Clid previously eliminates Taliyah, who Faker served to him. The heroine Taliyah is played by Rookie, who was also one of the greats at the World Championship.

Sylas from Invictus Gaming can only hold on briefly with the stop-watch until Faker takes him down. In the end, the ADC JackeyLove is caught while trying to escape, and Faker turns a teamfight that seemed already lost for SKT1. The fight ends with a 4:3 for SKT1. Faker secures 3 kills.
However, SKT1 could not turn the match anymore. After 42 minutes, Invictus Gaming won. On Reddit, people analyze: SKT1 still has a problem on the top lane:
- Khan on Camille played 0-6-6 here. His counterpart “TheShy” is regarded as an exceptional player on the top lane.
- Even Faker’s 7-3-3 didn’t help much.
This is why the clip is special: Faker shows that he still has it and plays exceptionally well against the 2018 World Championship team. SKT1 was not present at the World Championship – they could not qualify. And the tournament was painfully disappointing for Korea.
The clip is seen by LoL fans as a sign that Faker and SKT1 can still play high-level League of Legends. The clip has now reached 278,905 views.
In the chat, people are shouting “Faker 1vs9” – “The King is back” or “Faker the Savior.” The casters also get more and more excited as the clip progresses.
In LoL, a duel between Faker and JackeyLove is roughly equivalent to a football match between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, this year, Faker seems to have another tough battle for the crown. The team currently has problems and stands with 3-5 in 7th place in the Korean LCK league.
