If there are problems or changes to the queues in League of Legends in the future, Riot will inform you in the patch notes.
The new ranked season in League of Legends starts in just a few days. After the dynamic queue was introduced at the beginning of the 2016 season, there has been little communication from official sources regarding the queue. With the new season, the developers aim to improve this. To ensure players are always aware of the status of the ranked queues in 2017, this status will be integrated into the patch notes.
State of the Queue in the Patch Notes for LoL
Depending on the situation, there will be changes to the queues. To see if the queues are in a “Good State”, the developers regularly examine wait times, abandonment rates, and preferred positions. They also pay attention to the size of the arranged groups, the skill level of the players, and at what times of day/week games frequently and less frequently occur.
The evaluation resulting from these factors will then be displayed in the patch notes. For a meaningful result, these factors are examined separately for each region. In the patch notes, you will see ratings such as a check mark, an exclamation mark, or a wrench.
- Check mark – Wait times are low, games are fair, and role selection is well distributed – No problems
- Exclamation mark – One or more factors are approaching a poor state. However, since the games are still “playable”, everything remains as is. This is a sort of warning, not a direct alert.
- Wrench – Changes will be made to the solo/duo or flex queue. What changes are being made to improve the state of the queue will be listed below the wrench.
Changes for Better Wait Times in LoL
To ensure the flex queue (ranked) functions well, a minimum number of solo players is needed for balance. The developers at RiotGames have prepared a plan that will be implemented if wait times are too long.
- Increased weight of position preferences
- Scheduled queue availability (currently active)
- Limit flex queue (ranked) to arranged teams of five players (currently active)
- Do not allow arranged teams of four players in the flex queue (ranked) (with this restriction, all regions will start)
Changes will be announced in the patch notes. If changes need to be made quickly, you will see that on the status webpage. With patch 6.24, updates for the queue will be displayed for the first time.
