John Gonzalez returns to Obsidian Entertainment! Most recently, he established himself as the head of story for the PlayStation blockbusters Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. However, his roots lie with Fallout.
Who is John Gonzalez? The Spanish game designer and author has had the opportunity to work on several notable games throughout his long career. From 2013 to 2020, he worked at Guerilla Games, laying the story foundation for the blockbuster productions Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West as lead writer.
However, the author was able to make his first mark in the industry even earlier, as lead creative designer and writer at Obsidian Entertainment. There, Gonzalez created the central plot and conflict of Fallout: New Vegas. He also developed concepts for the casinos and the three families. He wrote several characters such as Benny, Robert House, Randall Clark, Caesar, and many more.
What do I need to know about Fallout: New Vegas? The quasi-sequel to Fallout 3 was a commissioned work for Bethesda and has developed into a fan favorite despite various technical problems, regularly landing in first place in Fallout rankings (such as those from GameStar).
On metacritic.com, the user score currently stands at 8.6. On Steam, it achieves a nearly perfect “Very Positive” rating, with 96 percent positive reviews. Fans continuously praise the well-written characters and factions, the witty humor, and the immense gameplay freedom.

What is John Gonzalez doing now? On linkedin.com, the author has now stated that he will return to Obsidian Entertainment in the position of creative director. It’s clear that he is immediately asked about Fallout: New Vegas 2. However, Gonzalez explains that he will not be working on it.
What is also clear is that the experienced author will have little influence on the development of the two RPGs that Obsidian has been working on for years: Avowed is set to be released on February 18, and The Outer Worlds 2 is expected to go live in 2025.
