The hero shooter LawBreakers has only recently launched and is already facing problems with declining player numbers on PC. Is the fast-paced shooter threatened with irrelevance?
LawBreakers is a fast-paced and dynamic hero shooter with high-end graphics. In addition to wild shooting in a cool post-apocalyptic setting, the game also impresses with its twisted gravity effects that throw you all over the maps. Critics and Steam reviews have responded positively to the game. Unfortunately, the player numbers are still dismal!
LawBreakers – Less than 500 concurrent players on Steam
Shortly after the game’s launch on August 7, 2017, player numbers on Steam dropped to around 1,000 concurrent gamers. This meager number of players has since fallen even further. According to the current Steam charts for LawBreakers, the numbers have been in free fall since launch, and currently, LawBreakers can’t even muster 500 concurrent players on Steam. The “peak” on August 29 only reached 431 concurrent players.
A significant loss compared to the launch, when there were still over 3,000 players. Therefore, comparisons with the extremely unsuccessful hero shooter Battleborn from Gearbox are already being made.
Battleborn flopped in the competition with Blizzard’s Overwatch despite cool gameplay and ultimately had to be rebranded as a free-to-play title. LawBreakers is currently still a buy-to-play game in the mid-price range, though it’s possible that this won’t be the case for much longer.
LawBreakers – Failure despite good Steam reviews?
According to the many good Steam reviews – 2,537 out of 2,922 reviews are positive (as of August 30, 2017) – LawBreakers is a good game. If you want to get a picture of LawBreakers, you can read our preview report on the fast-paced hero shooter here.
