The arena shooter LawBreakers simply has too few players. The developers are now starting a new project but do not want to give up on the shooter.
As a low gravity shooter with high skill requirements, LawBreakers was supposed to appeal to many players looking for a particularly competitive experience. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that the game does not attract enough people, and the numbers of concurrent players keep declining. Now, Studio Boss Key explains that this “cannot continue”.
Possible Free2Play system for LawBreakers
The project LawBreakers looked pretty cool and had Cliff Bleszinski as an emotional pusher, who directly addressed the community. But somehow it is not working out. A few weeks after release, the active players could be counted on two hands. This raised the wait times for matches which in turn discouraged new players. A vicious cycle in which the shooter found itself.
Now, with the game not even a year into release, they are focusing on a new project. LawBreakers could not meet expectations. On the official website, the Boss Key team releases a statement:
“The fact is that LawBreakers did not manage to attract such a large audience that is necessary for the originally planned sustainable development. Although a transition to a free-to-play system appears to be the easiest change, it requires a lot of planning and resources. The studio here has worked hard on this game for the past 3.5 years and is determined to give the game a second chance.”
Until then, time will pass, which the Boss Key team wants to use productively:
“In the meantime, we cannot just sit around. We will support the game in its current state, but will focus on other projects with fresh, creative leaders. We have been working on something new and can hardly wait to share more details with you. It is a passionate project over which we have complete control.”
The announcement of “fresh, creative leaders” is interesting, as Cliff Bleszinski was basically the face of the studio in recent years. However, his name is not mentioned in the official statement. In an email, Boss Key confirmed that the new project has nothing to do with LawBreakers and that developer Nexon is not involved.
