Last Epoch could pose serious competition to the Steam hit Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. However, the graphics have not received a positive response so far. But this is changing with the new update.
What is Last Epoch? The Hack ‘n Slay Last Epoch offers a unique feature: time travel. You experience the game world not only in different epochs but also use skills and spells that allow you to manipulate time. For example, it is possible to send enemies a few seconds into the future, so you don’t have to fight so many at once.
In addition, there’s the hunt for loot. You improve your hero and experience an epic story.

Finally better graphics
What was the biggest point of criticism so far? The reviews of Last Epoch on Steam are at 87% for the past 30 days. The Hack and Slay is getting good reviews. If it weren’t for the graphics. Besides the animations, the lighting in particular does not seem completely convincing. Light and shadow effects have been seen much better elsewhere, and also the landscapes could use more detail.
How are the developers responding? The criticism did not fall on deaf ears. On the contrary. The team has now announced a new update focusing on improved graphics. Version 0.7.7 offers significant optimizations in the lighting system and adds more details to the landscapes. This has an unexpectedly positive effect.
You can see the difference at first glance from comparison screenshots. The lighting gives Last Epoch a completely different atmosphere. The game looks much more modern visually.
Work is actively being done on the game
What else is being improved? The developers are not stopping at just the graphics. New ambient sounds are also being added. This makes the game world feel much more alive. Combined with the better graphics, it means a significant quality leap for Last Epoch.
What are the current issues? Visually, Last Epoch looks significantly better according to the new screenshots. However, the animations are still one of the points the team needs to work on again. Additionally, some players wish to be able to see each new armor on the character model, which is currently not the case. Despite the changes, it does not reach the Steam hit Wolcen.
Performance still needs to be improved, and of course, there are still some bugs. However, Last Epoch is currently still in Early Access. Further improvements will follow before the release in the fourth quarter of 2020.
