Last Epoch is a new action RPG on Steam that aims to compete with Diablo 4. It has been in early access since 2019 and is set to release later this month. Even before its release, the developers are celebrating a million units sold with the community.
Which game is it about? Last Epoch is a new action RPG that gives the genre its own time travel twist. Along with Path of Exile and Torchlight, it is one of the best alternatives to Diablo 4.
Since 2019, Last Epoch has been in early access and has secured a score of 85% on Steam. The final release is scheduled for February 21, 2024. But even now, the game can celebrate a special milestone.
Players hope that Last Epoch takes measures for its success
What milestone has Last Epoch achieved? On February 9, 2024, the developers celebrated in the official forum of the game that Last Epoch has already sold 1 million copies even before the release of version 1.0.
In a message, the team thanked all players who tested Last Epoch in early access, explored theories, reported bugs, shared their experiences, and enjoyed it. They want to take time amidst the hard work on the release to share this achievement with the community.
The mentioned players, in turn, respond with congratulations. We have compiled some of the reactions for you:
- Irrelevant is optimistic: “At least we know that [Last Epoch] is keeping an eye on the numbers, so we get enough server capacity to cover the initial hype.”
- TheRealKraggy thinks: “A truly deserved milestone for an example of the best in ‘early access’ game development that deserves to get even better.”
- DrGameDOOM is rather worried: “I hope your servers can handle it because I have a slightly bad feeling that this could be a Wolcen 2.0. So please make sure your servers are ready for it.”
Apparently, some players fear that Last Epoch could face a similar fate as the ARPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. It was released in February 2020 and stormed the Steam charts with up to 127,500 concurrent players. However, it struggled from the beginning with issues and already in March, 95% of the players were gone.
This milestone of one million units sold will likely bring Last Epoch one step closer to its declared goal. Because as Game Director Judd Cobbler recently announced in a press release, the new hack & slay doesn’t just want to fade into obscurity: Steam: Last Epoch wants to become an “action RPG for eternity”
