Last Epoch has been playable in version 1.0 on Steam for a few weeks now and has attracted hundreds of thousands of players. However, many of them have now reached the endgame and say: There’s really no goal there at all. Diablo 4 has had to deal with the same accusations.
This is the endgame in Last Epoch:
- You can play in Last Epoch up to level 100. However, the endgame already begins after the campaign, around level 50.
- Your main activity there is mastering Monoliths, randomly generated maps with enemies and specific rewards. A streamer has summarized the endgame in just 58 seconds.
- Besides Monoliths, there is also the endless arena with a leaderboard, on which our tier list for Last Epoch is based, as well as dungeons that you need for specific goals.
Why is there a lack of a goal? On Reddit players are currently discussing why exactly one should farm loot. There is no real goal to pursue by getting better and better. There are really only two reasons for better gear:
- A higher rank in the endless arena
- More corruption in the Monoliths
For many players, the Monoliths are just about finding a point where they can farm comfortably. After that, it stagnates a bit, the build is exhausted, and there are not many improvements left.
The arena has an even bigger weakness: it takes too long. To even make it onto the leaderboards, you have to survive hundreds of waves, each of which takes forever – mainly because individual enemies stand around somewhere, and you have to find them first.
To appear on the best lists, where only the top 50 players are displayed, you not only need to be extraordinarily good but also invest many hours. It wouldn’t be worth it.
Diablo 4 has removed that, and many were happy with it
What is criticized in Last Epoch about the arena also annoys at least a small group of players in Diablo 4. The new leaderboards of Diablo 4 are merely a challenge for a few, while the majority of players are never at the top anywhere.
There is also criticism regarding the dungeons of Last Epoch in another thread on Reddit. Dungeons have the problem that random walls can block paths here. This leads to players often having to “backtrack” and search for paths for a long time.
Diablo 4 had the exact same problems at launch and shortly after. Here there was a quick complaint: Diablo 4 has no endgame at all, because there’s no content that you can actually farm.
However, the community still believes in many respects that the endgame is more successful than in Diablo 4, mainly due to an important topic: loot. Many find it simply better in Last Epoch. There are two reasons for this:
- Loot filters that hide useless loot before picking it up
- The crafting, with which you can create strong items yourself and even shroud is completely excited about it
Even if it somehow lacks a goal, pure farming in Last Epoch just feels rewarding. Crafting is the reason why even players with 6,000 hours in Path of Exile are in love with Last Epoch.
At the same time, however, some believe that crafting is a problem. Because one only hopes for the same items to squeeze out a few better stats since everything else can be determined by oneself. This previously led to the feeling of: What’s the point of all this?
Whether the endgame in Last Epoch and Diablo 4 is really such a big problem is up for debate. A player says, for example: For him, it’s fun enough just to smash monsters. That is fun, and if it shouldn’t be the case anymore, he will just take a break. Even the creators of Diablo have already advised this: Blizzard wants you to stop playing Diablo 4 when you’ve had enough: ‘Play something else – we do too’
