The Larian Studio is behind games like Divine Divinity and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Now they will develop Baldur’s Gate 3 for Google’s new platform Stadia. Check out the teaser trailer here.
Update 6.6.: During the Google Stadia Connect, Larian Studios indeed announced Baldur’s Gate 3 for Google Stadia.
Larian has also released a teaser trailer.
The image will probably remain from the trailer:

Original announcement:
What is this hint? On the homepage of Larian, a “III” simply appeared today, without further hints. How this looks can be seen in the title image of this article.
Most took this as a hint for a possible Divinity: Original Sin III. Since the second part was released in 2017, a sequel would be due.

The Twitter user kunken then did the following:
- looked closer at the homepage via “Page Source”
- found a reference to an mp4 video that repeats this image for 27 seconds
- opened this video with a text editor
- and discovered the lines “BaldursGate_logo_III_retouched” and copyright notes stating “2019 Wizards of the Coast. All rights reserved. Baldur’s Gate.”
We at MeinMMO have retraced these steps, and it is indeed true. Whatever this may mean.
Is this really possible? In a RPG forum (via rpgcodex.net), a rumor arose in September 2018 that the head of Larian had acquired the license for Baldur’s Gate. This was allegedly revealed by a new colleague of the rumor-spreader who previously worked at Larian.
The rumor is now trending again.

Why is this a big deal? Baldur’s Gate is an iconic RPG series on PC from 1998 (Baldur’s Gate I) and 2000 (Baldur’s Gate II). It has shaped the youth of many gamers today, who are now in their 30s or 40s.
Larian Studios have developed several games in this tradition and are considered a kind of spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate.
While the studio Beamdog has been in talks for years about developing a Baldur’s Gate III, nothing has come of this yet.

If they actually make a Baldur’s Gate III, it would be a big deal for many RPG veterans.
Even though the news is already causing a stir among some fans, it is still not an official announcement. It could also be a PR stunt or just a gag by the developers seeking more attention for a Divinity Original Sin III.
They have definitely gained attention now.
Divinity Original Sin 2 was one of the games for which our author Andreas Bertits said: There will always be single-player games.
