Actually, Linus just wanted to introduce a gaming laptop from Razer. But then he is suddenly bombarded by his team with promotional products from the sponsor. Notably, the community does not react negatively, as one would expect during a longer advertisement interruption, but rather the opposite. This unconventional advertising is really well received by the viewers.
On the YouTube channel “Shortcircuit” with over 1.5 million subscribers, Linus Sebastian and his team comment on devices like gaming PCs and laptops, graphics cards, peripherals, or simply everything that comes their way in tech.
What happened? In his latest video, Linus looked at the new Razer Blade 14 with AMD processor. YouTubers like Linus rely on sponsors to finance their videos.
There is often a segment where the YouTuber promotes and recommends the sponsor’s product. However, in this particular case, Linus was quite literally bombarded with “advertising”.
Linus presented a protective case for Apple’s AirPods Pro from dbrand in his video. During the video, he puts on a hockey helmet. As soon as he finishes, he is bombarded by his colleague with exactly these products.
“Did dbrand make you do that?” Linus asks in surprise, to which his unseen colleague cheerfully responds, clearly enjoying the stunt.
Where can you see this? Many of you probably skip the sponsors while watching YouTube videos, but it’s worth checking this one out. You can see the segment in the official YouTube video from minute 5:17:
Linus gets bombarded during his video, fans celebrate sponsor dbrand
This is how the viewers react: In the comments under the YouTube video, fans express their excitement about the idea. Users have lots of praise for the surprising spot. People write in the comments:
- “dbrand must be the best sponsor of all time.”
- “dbrand shows us how advertising should be done. They should be the gold standard.”
- “dbrand literally throws money at him in the sponsorship spot, lol.”
The reactions from users also show that such fun advertising is much better received by viewers than very dry advertising that has to get by without humor.
Who is dbrand anyway? dbrand is a North American company that specializes in skins for electronic devices (via dbrand.com). These are cases or films that you can attach to an iPhone, a laptop, or an Android device, either for protection or personalization of the device.
With Linus being bombarded, dbrand aims not only to entertain but also to advertise its product. The underlying message, of course, is that we can trust a product that can even be thrown at people without damaging the electronic devices inside.
What else is Linus up to? Just recently, he tried the leaked version of Windows 11. His first impression was quite positive, although he noted that the design reminded him strongly of Apple. Meanwhile, Microsoft has officially introduced Windows 11.
Linus and his team regularly test and share their opinions on tech products, but in an entertaining way. Linus, also acting as CEO, founded “Linus Tech Tips” in 2008 and now has around 13.6 million subscribers on the main channel. The Linus Media Group has grown into a larger media company over the past 13 years, now operating several channels in the tech space.
