The superhero MMORPG DC Universe Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch) has been running for almost 10 years. And even now, really good content is still being released. A comprehensive update around Wonder Woman has been released.
What is this new content? With Episode 38: Wonderverse, a comprehensive update for the superhero MMORPG DC Universe Online (DCUO) was released on July 30 for all platforms – PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
In the new story, 5 versions of the well-known superhero Wonder Woman come together:
- Wonder Woman
- Flashpoint Wonder Woman
- Nubia
- DC Bombshells Wonder Woman
- Red Son Wonder Woman
They not only look different but also have slightly different powers. The heroines take on the fight against the “New Gods of Apokolips,” led by DC’s arch-villain Darkseid. He is trying to recover the fragments of the destroyed Source Wall to gain more power.
On the other hand, you need to find the pieces to rebuild the wall, as it represents a boundary between the different universes, which are now overlapping – hence the appearance of several versions of Wonder Woman.
This time, you explore a large open area. The new map almost resembles an open world. There you encounter many enemies, including powerful boss monsters. Additionally, you will find new items such as artifacts inspired by Greek mythology.
An still interesting MMORPG
How is the MMO doing at the moment? DC Universe Online has a loyal fanbase. Steamcharts shows, however, that with 902 concurrent players at peak over the last 30 days, it is not very large. But the online game can also be played through its own launcher and on consoles, which is why the numbers are not really representative.
The ratings on Steam are “Mostly Positive” at 79%. The gameplay is praised, but the payment model is criticized.
- Duskshadows writes on Steam: “Superpowers, flying, heat vision. The graphics are okay, although somewhat outdated. The voice acting is amazing!”
- CatalystGamer18 says: “The game is really good, and I hope more people play it. I believe that DCUO has such an extensive story that I can play it forever.”
- Brad McLeod is not so enthusiastic: “I remember when it was still operated by Sony Online Entertainment. It was a lot of fun back then. Now they are just squeezing money out of you, and it’s only a shadow of its former self. It was fun to play a superhero, now it’s only fun if you are Bruce Wayne. The paywall is too high and ruins the enjoyment of the game.”
- MiTo… explains: “The game had the potential to be a masterpiece. But thanks to Daybreak, it is now pay-to-win.”
DC Universe Online is still basically a good superhero MMORPG, as long as you don’t let the payment model ruin your fun.
