In Landmark, the way land is claimed and new players dive into the world is drastically changing.
More Land, Less Claims
A major update is upcoming for Landmark, which will primarily affect the size of claimed areas. In a post on the official forum, the developer “Domino” commented on the upcoming changes. The size of the “Claims”, the areas that can be built on, is fundamentally changing. Instead of claiming many small areas and merging them into one large one as before, there will now be a standardized size for all Claims, which is about 16 times the size of the previous areas.
New players will start on a so-called “Pioneer Island” with the update, which is particularly flat, has no surface caves, and is therefore excellent for initial attempts as a builder. Anyone who cannot make use of this island can immediately move on and seek out another patch of land.
Extensive changes are also being made to the various levels of caves. Previously, resources were available on the surface and more in deeper layers of the earth – there were a total of 5 levels of caves, all with different resources. These levels are being phased out; instead, everything below the surface is considered “Subterranean” and can contain all the resources from the previous caves.
No specific date for the patch has been announced yet, but it has been stated that it “definitely will not come in the first half of March.” Players still have some time to prepare and bid farewell to their old “Claims” – as they will be reset upon the release of the new patch.
