The MMO shooter Destiny has surprisingly much in common with the Marvel blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy,” at least according to a fan who created something entirely new from trailers of both.
“My intention was to merge my favorite movie with one of the games I like the least,” said YouTube artist Austin Bolliger. But even if that sounds a bit aggressive towards Destiny, a wonderful and quite quirky mix has emerged in the trailer mash-up, with Destiny coming off pretty well.
In a way, “Guardians of the Galaxy” also retaliates towards Destiny. Wasn’t the first live-action trailer for Bungie’s MMO hit aesthetically quite reminiscent of the film? “Something classical” was to be played by Ghost to show it to the aliens and he thought of Led Zeppelin with the “Immigrant Song.” Now it’s “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Suede. Not bad either.
Parallels between the two very different franchises have been pointed out many times before. Maybe this trailer will help see the Guardians in a new light. A bit more personality and a wink would surely do Destiny’s universe some good.
