The new character Kokomi from Genshin Impact is not being well received according to banner sales and the community. Fans have even gone so far as to bully the Chinese voice actress of Kokomi. MeinMMO reports on the extent of the unpopularity surrounding Kokomi.
Who is Kokomi? Kokomi is the latest 5-star character from Genshin Impact and has been available to players since September 21. She is a Hydro healer wielding a book as a weapon, similar to another character named Barbara. Additionally, Kokomi’s talent makes it very difficult for her to deal high damage numbers.
Who is the Chinese voice actress of Kokomi? It is the Chinese voice actress Niang Gui. She is known for her role as Tata MeI in the anime Aishen Qiaokeli-ing…II, alongside Kokomi.
What happened to Niang GUI? During a livestream by Niang Gui, fans of Genshin Impact harassed and insulted her because they were dissatisfied with the character Kokomi. The situation escalated to the point where the voice actress had to change the rules of her livestream. Only viewers with Badge Rank 3 were allowed to chat (via reddit). These are people who have been around for a while and are not new.
Niang Gui writes on her bilibili page that she is just a small voice actress and cannot do much about it. She hopes that all who like Kokomi appreciate her dynamics (referring to her voice) and that people feel as if they are in a relaxed and pleasant environment because of Kokomi (via bilibili).
Kokomi – Worst banner since release
The numbers say about Kokomi: Kokomi’s unpopularity is also reflected in banner sales. With approximately 2.8 million euros so far, Kokomi is far behind other characters. The first day of banner sales is also always captured. There, Kokomi is similarly behind other characters (via reddit).
Even character banners that have returned a second time have sold twice as well as Kokomi’s banner.
