In a week, the latest installment of the series, Kingdom Under Fire 2, will launch. The story from the previous games will continue there. We will tell you everything you need to know about the previous history to enjoy the sequel.
On November 14, Kingdom Under Fire 2 (KUF 2) will be released. The MMORPG, which also features strategic elements, was in crisis for 10 years. Now it is finally coming and is supposed to pick up the story where its predecessors left off. Here you will find out everything there is to know about the story of Kingdom Under Fire.
An endless war between light and darkness
What happened at the beginning
At the center of the story of Kingdom Under Fire is the continent Bersia. It is ruled by two powers – Nible, the Lord of Light, and Encablossa, the Lord of Darkness. Many years ago, the two made a pact to alternate in ruling Bersia.
As Nible’s reign, the Lord of Light, comes to an end, he does not want to hand over power to Encablossa. Giving up power would mean that all life he has created over the many years would be destroyed in an instant.
The Lord of Darkness, Encablossa, is so enraged that he does everything to plunge Nible’s realm into chaos. He creates the “Dark Legion” to reclaim what is rightfully his.
The events before the wars
A lich named Khilliani enters the scene. He has strong magical powers and manages to bring the orcs and ogres in Bersia under his control. This temporarily brings peace between Hexter, the realm of orcs and ogres, and the neighboring area of the Hironeiden.
Meanwhile, rumors circulate that a gigantic sculpture is rising from the ground in Hexter. It is called the “Altar of Destruction”. No one knows where the stone structure comes from or what destruction it may bring.
At this time, attacks by strange creatures or monsters throughout Bersia are also increasing. They seem to be searching for something and murder their way through the races. Ultimately, peace breaks down, and the orcs and ogres, under Khilliani’s leadership, invade the realm of the elves.
They are searching for the “Ancient Heart”, a relic that possesses nearly unlimited power. Only a few elves survive the attack, including Karl, who later becomes one of the “Xok Knights”, also known as the guardians of the “Ancient Heart”. He manages to save the relic and brings it to a safe place.
The First War of the Heroes
Karl flees with Cellin, another elf, to Hironeiden. The human territory had already made a pact with Khilliani. Karl and Celine are to be taken away when a message reaches the capital of the Hironeiden.
The orcs and ogres, still searching for the “Ancient Heart”, have broken through the borders of the land. The pact with Khilliani was merely a trick. However, the knights of the Hironeiden, led by Keither, manage to repel the enemies.
Subsequently, the “Xok Knights”, the guardians of the “Ancient Heart”, are founded. This group is meant to prevent Khilliani from obtaining the relic to complete the “Altar of Destruction”. He wants to bring an end to the period of light. The guardians consist of:
- Keither, a knight of the Hironeiden
- Rick Miner, a close friend of Keither and a strong knight
- Moonlight, a royal wizard
- Karl and Cellin, the elves
- Gunther, a friendly and quiet dwarf
- Ludiana, a sorceress
A battle ensues between Khilliani and the group, in which Rick Miner is killed. The heroes, on Moonlight’s insistence and despite Karl’s warning, decide to revive Rick with the “Ancient Heart”. This makes Rick so strong that the group can destroy Khilliani and his “Altar of Destruction”.
The Second War of the Heroes
About 100 years after the first War of the Heroes, humans must again fight against the “Dark Legion”. This time, the hero Curian is in focus. One day, he returns from a journey to find his village destroyed by orcs. He then flees with some survivors to the castle of the Hironeiden.
After some intrigues and battles between humans and the “Dark Legion”, another alliance is formed. For this, Curian and the former guardian Moonlight are sent to the elves and dwarves.
In the meantime, Rick Blood, formerly Rick Miner and leader of the “Dark Legion”, takes possession of the “Ancient Heart”. He wants to complete what Khilliani started 100 years ago. Curian then sets off with his army to the “Altar of Destruction”, which Rick Blood has nearly completed.
With Keither’s help, they defeat Rick Blood and destroy the altar once again. The “Dark Legion” is pushed back, but evil is not vanquished.
A new villain appears and wants to rebuild the altar. This new enemy later turns out to be Khilliani. The final showdown takes place at the “Altar of Destruction”. In this giant battle involving all the nations of the continent, Nible is resurrected. After his appearance, all combatants disappear, and the war ends.
The war is not over – The Crusaders and Heroes
However, it doesn’t take long for the next war to break out. The patriarch of Ecclesia, a realm of humans, and one of his followers, Walter, have a divine vision of the “Ancient Heart”. They want to destroy it and therefore form an alliance with the dark elves.
To cover up this connection, Walter attacks a city and makes it look like it was done by the dark elves. The plan works. When the three heroes Gerald, Ellen, and Rupert see the destroyed city, they attack the dark elves, and a war breaks out.
Also involved in the fight are the orcs and ogres led by Regnier. He kills the best general of the Hironeiden and thus incurs the wrath of his sons – Gerald and Rupert. In a later showdown, Rupert dies, and Regnier leaves Gerald and Ellen seemingly to die.
The church continues to search for the “Ancient Heart” and uses all other allies as shields. This includes the troops of the Hironeiden under the leadership of General Kendal. Ultimately, Walter manages to acquire the “Ancient Heart”.
It turns out that Regnier is the former warrior Rick Miner. The patriarch catches wind of the power of the “Ancient Heart” and wants to use it to control Regnier. With it, he would have the power to destroy the “Dark Legion”.
It is also revealed that the relic contains the hearts of Nible and Encablossa. If it is destroyed, the period changes from light to darkness. Walter realizes that the pope is possessed and takes the relic for himself. Now everyone is pursuing him because they want to use the “Ancient Heart” for their own purposes and take revenge.
The War with Encablossa
Despite all odds, Walter and his troops manage to destroy the “Ancient Heart”. What he did not know, however, is that it was not God, but Encablossa himself who gave him the vision.
As a result, darkness returns to power, devouring the troops and sending demons across the continent. With the appearance of Encablossa, Regnier gradually becomes mortal again. He decides to team up with Gerald and Kendal. Regnier knows the weakness of the dark lord, as he was essentially his living vessel.
With the help of the dwarves, Regnier and Kendal enter the demon’s interior and destroy its heart. As a result, the heroes are forever trapped in darkness, but the period of light dawns once again.
Gerald was left behind to defend the capital. Together with Ellen, he has a son – Glen – one of the characters in Kingdom Under Fire 2.
Inside the Lord of Darkness
Inside Encablossa, Regnier and Kendal are trapped in his realm. There, they are slowly mutating into demons under his influence. Encablossa wants to use Regnier as a weapon and promises, in return, to free him from his fear and regret.
Kendal meanwhile encounters the soul of Moonlight, who wants to make him a demonic warrior. However, without Encablossa’s control.
Ultimately, both warriors break out of the body of the dragon. Regnier leads a large army of demons, and nothing else is known about Kendal. This is where the new MMORPG/RTS Kingdom Under Fire 2 picks up and continues the story.
