In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you can have a dog as your four-legged companion. He is very useful in some quests and supports you in combat. MeinMMO shows you where you can find the dog.
How do I get the dog? There are two ways to reunite your loyal companion with Heinrich. Either you complete the quest line “The Dog” in its entirety, or you go to the place where the dog is located from the start. However, you will not be able to complete the quest chain because there is no reason to search for the animal. MeinMMO describes both ways.
Our video gives you 10 important tips if you have never played the first part:
First option: Get the dog quickly
How do I shorten the quest? Your dog is hanging around from the beginning where you will also find him at the end of the quest. Specifically, he is located in a wooded area, west of the nomad camp in Trosky.
To find him, you need to visit this location at dusk. A path lined with many deer carcasses leads you directly to a wolf den. Here the dog is gnawing on a piece of meat.
After the cutscene in which Heinrich and the dog greet each other, they are attacked by a pack of wolves. You can run away or charge into battle alongside your companion for the first time.
Second option: Complete the quest “The Dog”
Initial clues
First, you should look around the place where you last saw the dog. The place will be shown to you northwest of Bozenas’ hut. You will encounter a vagabond who will attack you when you get closer.
Defeat him in combat and then take your time to look around. Inspect especially the carcass of a deer in the meadow.
Heinrich decides to walk back to Bozenas’ hut to ask the old woman for clues. She gives you two options for further information:
- You can ask the innkeeper for more clues at the Inn of the Carters, northwest of Zelejow.
- Alternatively, you can visit a fisherman at Vidlak Pond and question him.
No matter which option you choose, you will receive the same information: A shepherd has been complaining for a long time about a wolf pack that is eating his sheep. Sometimes wild dogs run with some wolf packs. A gamekeeper might also know something about wolf packs with wild dogs.
The wolf pack at the shepherd
You will find the shepherd Siegfried in Kopanina, which is located north of Tachau. Siegfried asks Heinrich to kill the wolf pack. As a reward, he promises you 20 groschen.
In order for the wolf pack to appear at all, you need a bait. Siegfried offers you his goat Ignatius, but you can also use another piece of meat. If you accept Ignatius as bait, the animal will faithfully follow you up the hill.
Once you reach the hill, you need to either throw your own bait or persuade Ignatius with a thrown carrot to lie down. Now you hide in the bushes next to you and wait briefly.
When the wolf pack comes, Ignatius will run down the hill. You can save his life or let him die. Take care of the wolf pack, because your dog is not with you.
Then go back to the shepherd. If Ignatius died, he will cope with it and later ask you whether you killed the wolf pack. If yes (or if you lie successfully), you will receive a reward of 20 groschen from him.
Since the dog was not with this wolf pack, Siegfried refers you to the gamekeeper.
The gamekeeper
You will find the gamekeeper’s house northwest of Zelejow. Here, however, you will only meet his wife and son, who tell you that the hunter has been gone for some time again, presumably drunk.
Heinrich has no choice but to save him if he wants to learn more. Complete the side quest “Lakai” so that you can continue with the dog quest.
Once the gamekeeper is home again, still visibly drunk but responsive, you ask him about the dog. He will tell you about a forest west of the nomad camp where another wolf pack is lurking.
At dusk, you head into the forest and you will eventually encounter the dog.
After reuniting with your companion, you can either jump into your first battle together against a wolf pack or run away.
Another companion on your journeys can be the horse Pebbles. The various ways you can encounter him have been explained to you by MeinMMO author Christoph Waldboth here: Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: How to quickly get a horse without spending a groschen
