On February 4, 2025, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was released on Steam, the Epic Games Store, as well as on Xbox and PS5. The initial statistics and user reviews show that the new RPG is really well received by players.
Update from February 6, 2025: The new launch numbers for Kingdom Come 2 are as follows:
- 176,285 simultaneous active players on Steam (via steamdb.info).
- The developers are celebrating 1 million units sold on X.
- The game currently has 8,281 positive reviews on Steam, with 91 percent being positive.
How is KCD2 being received so far? MeinMMO has already provided you with an overview of the reviews and the Metacritic score. But how do players like the new role-playing game from Warhorse Studios? The key figures so far are as follows:
- On launch night, up to 159,351 Steam users played the RPG simultaneously (via steamdb.info). This morning, more than 80,000 interested players are gaming again.
- Both cases saw it reach the top 10 on Steam (currently ranked 9th, even 6th yesterday, behind the usual suspects like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, DOTA 2, and Marvel Rivals).
- Out of 3,892 Steam reviews, 92 percent are currently positive (very positive).

Many players are surprised by one thing
What is the community praising? Similar to many reviews, many players celebrate the design of the lively and realistic world, the exciting story, and the noticeable progress compared to its predecessor. However, many RPG fans are remarkably positively surprised by one particular aspect:
- f1fty writes on Steam: “The most optimized game I’ve played in the last 5 years. Graphics, combat, open world, one of the best RPGs since Witcher 3.”
- AdamsCzech praises on Steam as well: “Surprisingly, the performance is very good. I was worried that my RTX 2070 Super wouldn’t be sufficient, but the game runs stably even at high settings. And the gameplay is much smoother than in the first game. The preorder was definitely worth it!”
- Mondseele celebrates on Steam: “A game releasing in 2025. It starts without issues, and you can play right away. The performance is great, there are hardly any bugs. No season passes, no in-game shop, no gambling[…]. You get a large game with attention to detail and gameplay that you don’t know from other games. No, this is not a fable from a bygone era. This is Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.”
Is there any criticism? Of course, no game is perfect and appeals to everyone. WIZBASKY complains in his review on Steam about the lags he experiences during cutscenes and the fact that you cannot save at any time (editor’s note: which is not true… even if the option to “Quit and Save” is certainly not the most convenient).
makbthemf has a particular perspective in his critique on Steam: In his opinion, part 1 is the much better game, especially regarding the start of the story. He thinks you should wait for the hardcore mode and mod support. Additionally, the player may have encountered some critical bugs early on.
Also, various other players complain about bugs that can even break quests. But how does this align with the many praises for the technical condition of the game?
In such a complex and extensive game like KCD2, the frequency of encountering bugs depends on many parameters. For example, your own PC configuration or in what order and how you approach the many quests and activities in the game. This alone can lead to very different player experiences.
What do I need to know about Kingdom Come? The first role-playing game from Warhorse Studios was released on February 13, 2018, and despite some technical issues, it became a surprising success. On Steam the RPG has 83% positive reviews.
Like part 1, the sequel revolves around Heinrich, the son of a blacksmith. You can expect open-world adventures from the first-person perspective in both games, focusing heavily on the story, an authentic simulation of the game world, and the role-playing experience.
