With his contribution to the dance competition in Fortnite, he became immortal among the community. Now the boy is also celebrated in the game.
As you may have been following in recent weeks, the gaming scene is currently absolutely in a Fortnite craze. This is also because developer Epic is so close to the community that they try to fulfill every wish.
And when Epic makes a mistake in the eyes of the community, they make it right afterwards.
Dance with T-shirt and tracksuit becomes a HIT!
This is the dance moves celebrated by the Fortnite community: A boy in an orange T-shirt and tracksuit stands in his childhood room in front of the window, waving his arms through the air and dancing to himself without music. The Orange Shirt Kid, as the boy is called by fans because of his shirt, caught attention in Epic’s BoogieDown-Contest in March and won the hearts of many players.
What was the competition about? Fortnite challenged its players to record their own dances, which could possibly turn into an emote. This would then be usable in the game. Thus, the winning dance was digitized and could be used by players all over the world – fame in Fortnite, so to speak.
Thousands of participants took part, but the funny and lovable dance of the Orange Shirt Kid was among the favorites among fans. His dance appeared in videos from PewDiePie, Pyrocynical, and Dolan Darker. In the following tweet, you can see the dance.
Competition unfortunately not won, community dissatisfied
Although the boy only landed in 23rd place in the dance competition, he remained in the hearts of the community. They were dissatisfied with the “real” winner, started a petition on Change.org demanding “Make the Orange Shirt Kid the winner of the BoogieDown dance competition”. Over 11,800 people signed the petition.
Now the fans of the boy celebrate that there is justice. Because since May 1st, the Orange Shirt Kid dance is available in the game under the name “Orange Justice”.
The joy of the boy is great. On Twitter, he wrote after the emote discovery “THEY ADDED IT OMGOMG”
He writes that he is already looking forward to when someone kills him in the game, notices it was the Orange Shirt Kid, and then performs his dance. “That will be so funny. GG Epic”.
What does the community say? On Reddit, players are ecstatic. Their many protests have paid off – the dance is in the game. They celebrate Epic for being so close to the community and thank the developers for this nice feature. A thread titled “Justice has been served” has received over 37,000 upvotes so far.
