In Pokémon GO the Kanto event has started! We are showing you all the new quests, the two new Shinies and the Raid bosses waiting for you.
This is the Kanto event: The event is part of the Nostalgia Challenge and focuses on Generation 1. Until May 8th at 1:00 PM local time, there are special bonuses and new Raid bosses.
A lot has changed in the game, which is why we give you the complete overview here.
Quests, Spawns and Shinies – All about the Kanto event
These are the quests: There are a total of 8 new field researches waiting for you, all featuring Pokémon from Generation 1. So there are:
- Catch 7 Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Krabby*
- Catch 3 Poison-type Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Bluzuk*
- Play with your buddy
- Reward: Encounter with a Sleimok
- Take a snapshot of your buddy
- Reward: Encounter with a Pikachu*
- Send 7 Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Smettbo
- Fight against another trainer
- Reward: Encounter with a Bisasam*
- Give your buddy 3 snacks
- Reward: Encounter with a Menki*
- Use a Power-Up on a Pokémon
- Reward: Encounter with a Schiggy*
The quests surrounding Krabby, Bluzuk, and Pikachu seem particularly rewarding. Krabby is one of the rarest Shinies in the game, and the other two Pokémon are new Shinies in the game.
These new Shinies are available: As already announced, Shiny Bluzuk can be found in the game for the first time. You can recognize it by the blue eyes.
Moreover, there is a Pikachu with Charizard hat as Shiny. This is another event Shiny that you can only catch this week.
Which spawns are there? The list of spawns is long. Many Pokémon from the first generation can be found. Particularly interesting are Chaneira, Kleinstein, Fukano, Lapras, Tentacha, Jurob, and Bluzuk. They can all be encountered as Shiny and are not very common in Germany or can be obtained as new Shinies in the game.
Anyone who likes the hat-Pikachu should of course also take the chance to get the Shiny Pikachu with Charizard hat this week. It spawns normally in the wild.
What other bonuses are exciting? In the 7-km eggs, there are several Pokémon from the Kanto region. So if you want to have the chance for a Shiny with good IV, you should focus on the eggs.
Additionally, there are double XP on raids, catching Pokémon, and hatching. Especially the raid XP is exciting, as you can earn 40,000 XP during a legendary raid with a lucky egg.
Moreover, you can currently find Darkrai in the raids, which is the perfect Pokémon for remote raids.
New Raid Bosses for the Kanto event
These are the bosses: After there were new bosses with the start of the Darkrai raids, a change has now taken place again. In the Level 1 to Level 4 raids, there are exclusively Pokémon from the first generation:
| Raid Level | Raid Boss |
| Level 1 (pink egg) | Glumanda* Bisasam* Schiggy* Mauzi* Karpador* Smogon* |
| Level 2 (pink egg) | Magmar* Schlurp* Sleimok Elektek Austos |
| Level 3 (yellow egg) | Tangela Rossana Pinsir* Aerodactyl* Onix* Sichlor* |
| Level 4 (yellow egg) | Quappo Geowaz Nidoking Nidoqueen Dragoran Relaxo |
| Level 5 (black egg) | Darkrai* |
Which raid bosses are worth it? In the Level 1 raids, every boss can be Shiny. So if you don’t have one of these Pokémon as Shiny yet, the raids are definitely worth it.
From the usability standpoint, Elektek, Sichlor, Dragoran, and Relaxo are interesting. They are all either the best attackers of their type or are really strong in the PvP league and dominate the tier list there.
