The Anguish of Whales
If you want to become a whaler in Revival, you will need a ship, a crew, and bodyguards, but more on that later. Since whales are very large, you will also need a very large ship – a whaling ship. With any other ship, whaling will not be possible. With your ship, you will set out to search for whales in the vast oceans. Once you find them, you hunt them and break them down to obtain valuable items such as whale oil.
You will then sell these items in the cities – but you need to hurry, as the raw materials can spoil quickly. The hunting is meant to be as realistic as possible, meaning you hunt the whales with harpoons, let them bleed out, and draw them aboard your ship alive to disassemble them there. Revival does this not to provoke, but rather to create a dark, grim, and brutal world where such aspects are presented without mercy. However, whaling serves another purpose besides gathering resources. Legends speak of the mystical connection between whales and other creatures in the ocean. Those who can make use of this connection will unveil the secrets of the sea.
Whaling is not an easy thing. Because not only does the whale fight for its life, but it may also be that other players want to make it easier for themselves and try to snatch the prey from you after you’ve done all the work. The seas are full of such pirates, who often use faster and more agile ships than a whaling ship. This is where bodyguards come into play. You hire other players as mercenaries to accompany you during whaling and protect you from pirates. In return, you give these mercenaries a share of the loot. Those who successfully hunt whales can earn a lot of money in Theleston.
