Do you want to be transported back to your childhood with a full-power shot? Then “Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions” is your game. At least that’s what the new trailer suggests.
This is the Tsubasa game: It was announced back in January that Tsubasa will finally be making its way to your console or PC after a long time. It combines fun arcade soccer games with a story mode.
Fans of the series liked the first trailer – and now a second has been released. It’s packed with everything that made the series great back then: Rapid gameplay, absolutely insane special shots, and even a bit of story in between. But see for yourself:
Of Tiger Shots and Timed Finishing
Tsubasa doesn’t need realism: Reactions to this trailer have been largely positive as well. One user even commented: “I don’t know the anime at all, but I can say this looks better than the annual FIFA game.”
Of course, we are talking about two completely different games here. After all, in FIFA 20, the most you can do is play the Mystery Ball mode, where you can fire off a few boosted shots. Otherwise, the FIFA series relies on a more or less realistic soccer simulation.
One cannot really talk about realism in Tsubasa. After all, realism was never the focus of the series. The idea that a player would bounce off the goal post to gain a height advantage or summon a monstrous tiger in the midst of taking a shot at the goal is something you don’t see often either in the Bundesliga or in FIFA 20.
Where FIFA 20 has Timed Finishing, Captain Tsubasa has a Fire Shot. In FIFA 20, you can call a defender to help, while in Tsubasa, you jump off the defender’s legs to hit the ball into the net with a backflip. And a complete game in FIFA 20 lasts about a quarter of an hour – while in Tsubasa, it takes at least three anime episodes (just a little joke).
In the competition for the best soccer simulation, Tsubasa and FIFA 20 are unlikely to be rivals. But we can still look forward to a pretty fun soccer game with Tsubasa!
However, for those who prefer a more realistic soccer experience, they can look here for reinforcements for their team:
