While the anime of Jujutsu Kaisen continues in 2026 with the 3rd season, the manga has already concluded. However, it continues with a new story called Modulo.
After manga artist Gege Akutami finished the Jujutsu Kaisen manga despite health issues, he announced that he would be working on a new project. He receives support from an artist to better focus on the story.
So far, the first chapters of his new manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, have been released. MeinMMO reveals what it’s about and where you can read the manga yourself.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a direct sequel
What does Modulo have to do with Jujutsu Kaisen?
The story of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo takes place 68 years after the events of the Culling Game, the penultimate arc of the manga. It is thus a direct sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, just a few decades later.
The protagonists are the two Jujutsu sorcerers Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu. The girl and the boy are siblings and the grandchildren of Maki Zenin and Yuta Okkotsu. This also confirms that the two characters from Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 have had children.
A major difference: It is now the year 2086 and an alien race called the Simurians has arrived on Earth with their spaceship. They also possess cursed energy and are the new antagonists of the story.
What is the story of the manga?
After the events of the Culling Game, there is a wave of kidnappings of children in Japan, as their bodies are considered a valuable source of cursed energy. They are sold on the black market as living energy sources. The two siblings are sent on a mission to investigate the crimes.
Meanwhile, the two protagonists struggle with their own issues. Yuka resembles her grandfather Yuta more, while Tsurugi takes after his grandmother Maki. However, decisions are made above their heads that they do not agree with. Thus, both try to prove that they are the stronger of the two siblings.
Where can I read the manga?
You can already read the first chapters on Manga Plus. All mangas published by Shueisha are available there. So far, however, the story is only available in English.
The story is said to comprise only 3 volumes and will last about half a year. So it will not be an extensive story like Jujutsu Kaisen, which could indicate a faster pacing.
Is the manga worth it?
Since the manga is only planned as a short story, you can safely start the story if you are afraid of long-term projects and are reading other works alongside it. The aliens as a new antagonist bring fresh wind into the franchise, and the two grandchildren fit well into the story.
However, if you expect to learn more about the characters from Jujutsu Kaisen, we have to disappoint you. In the first two chapters, the characters have only been shown from behind or in ways that their faces were not visible. Since most characters from Jujutsu Kaisen are likely dead, if they do appear at all, they will play a rather minor role.
